Allen Nye is the Chief Executive Officer for Oncor, the largest electric delivery company in Texas and a 21st century energy innovator with roots dating back to 1912. Oncor operates more than 140,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines and serves more than 400 communities and 98 counties. More than 4,500 people work for Oncor.

Nye has served as Oncor’s CEO and a member of its board of directors since March 2018. Prior to serving in this role, Nye served as Oncor’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, and his responsibilities included oversight of all legal, regulatory and compliance matters. With a strong background as a partner at the law firms of Hunton & Williams LLP (now known as Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP) and Vinson & Elkins LLP, Nye focused on the representation of regulated energy companies before state and federal government agencies, including the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the State Office of Administrative Hearings and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. An active community leader, Nye serves on the boards of various philanthropic and industry organizations.

Under his leadership, the Oncor service territory, and the entire state of Texas more broadly, has experienced tremendous – and in many places record – levels of growth, especially in the last year. This growth continues despite ongoing supply chain impacts on builders, higher interest rates, and signals of a national recession. Despite these challenges, the employees and contractors of Oncor continue to work safely and efficiently to meet the needs of more than 13 million customers, and even lend a hand outside its service territory when needs arise. Most recently, Oncor sent more than 500 mutual assistance personnel to Florida to help with power restoration efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

Like most companies, Oncor had to quickly adapt through the pandemic and evolve to meet customer and employee needs throughout it all. Nye was quick to accelerate employee communications during these tumultuous times and empowered the team to maintain their spirit of innovation in all aspects of the business. A true connector, Nye offers great transparency with the team and inspires employees to adapt and evolve no matter what challenges they face.

Earlier this year, freezing temps and icing events plagued Oncor’s service territory. Then there was a summer of record-breaking heat with more than 68 days of triple digits. Following that, the Dallas metro experienced a once in a 1,000 years rainfall with more than 15 inches of rain in a single day. Through all of these events, Nye says the team exemplified the highest standards for how a utility should operate and upheld its strong safety record through severe weather and blue-sky days. This safety-first, innovative mindset that Nye has fostered is what makes Oncor a true industry leader. The company not only weathers the storms, but is now supporting historic territory growth. And on top of that, the team continues to fulfill a growing number of new renewable energy requests for interconnection each year, helping to support a more resilient, reliable and sustainable electric grid long into the future.

Thanks to Nye and his management, the company is innovating like never before to stay ahead of Texas’ enormous capacity needs and to rise to the moment even when the unexpected pops up.

  4. In bullet-list form, provide a brief summary of up to ten (10) of the chief accomplishments of the nominee(s) since January 1 2021. This is required whether you are submitting a video or an essay:
    • Led the largest electric delivery company in Texas through the pandemic and into the new post-pandemic norm
    • Helps Oncor invest billions in state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced technologies to create a safer, smarter, more reliable power grid for its 13 million customers.
    • Drives innovation through smart metering, predictive analytics, drone technology and state-of-the-art automation to create self-healing grid technology that can outsmart potential power overloads and outages.
    • Enables the company to support tremendous growth across its service territory, even record growth in some areas, despite ongoing supply chain impacts on builders, higher interest rates, and signals of a national recession.
    • Supports renewable adoption in a state that produces more wind power than any other and Texans have access to more sources of cleaner, renewable energy than ever before.
    • Empowers 4,500 employees to strive for innovation in everything they do.
