Lynx Software Technologies (Lynx) has crafted and adapted platform architectures for builders of safety- and/or security-critical systems. Lynx is the leader in enabling Mission Critical Edge platforms, combining deterministic real-time performance, security and hardware optimizations of traditional embedded software with the DevSecOps advantages enjoyed by IT Infrastructure.

Throughout its history, Lynx has provided solutions to the aerospace & defense industry in the form of mission critical software systems that have been deployed all over the world, aids in keeping people safe and protecting our allied national interests. Keeping systems in high-threat environments, such as fighter jets or unmanned aerial vehicles, safe is not an easy undertaking. In order to achieve success, Lynx has embraced open standards, such as UNIX and POSIX. These open solutions allow developers of embedded applications to reuse existing code to reduce technical risk, avoid vendor lock in and dramatically improve time to market and development costs. The result is unrivaled interoperability among various technology platforms.

Lynx has expertise in several areas, including, system comprehensibility, safety certification, and kernel engineering, among others. Customers of Lynx include some of aerospace and defense’s biggest names, including the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, Collins Aerospace, and Lockheed Martin.

  4. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the organization's achievements since the beginning of 2021 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

    Total 248 words used.

In 2021 Lynx introduced new management capabilities to its LYNX MOSA.ic framework. These updates allow operators managing critical IT and OT infrastructure to flexibly deploy, monitor, and manage multiple connected mission critical systems. This technology can be implemented in planes, autonomous vehicles, and secure infrastructure.

In 2022, Lynx introduced LynxElement, the industry’s first unikernel to be POSIX compatible and available for commercial use. By utilizing LYNX MOSA.ic’s software framework, LynxElement provides built-in security for the Unikernel, thus paving the way to safety certification in mission-critical applications. Since mission critical systems can have life or death consequences, the added level of security that LynxElement provides is essential for aerospace technology.

Also in 2022, Lynx was acquired by OceanSound Partners, allowing them to build on its legacy of delivering differentiated embedded software solutions for the aerospace, defense, and industrial end-markets while further optimizing and accelerating its growth potential.

Lynx has received multiple recognitions for its work in mission-critical systems and the aerospace & defense industry. In 2021 Lynx was named to the shortlist for the Elektra Awards for its LynxSafe product, and LYNX MOSA.ic was named IoT Platform of the Year by the IoT Breakthrough Awards. In 2022, Military & Aerospace Electronics recognized Lynx MOSA.ic for Avionics as a Platinum Honoree in their Innovator Awards, were named a IoT Innovator Awards silver winner for their industrial capabilities, and again were named IoT Platform of the Year for the second consecutive year by the IoT Breakthrough Awards.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):

    Total 197 words used.

Lynx’s introduction of LynxElement has changed the way mission-critical systems implement security measures. Unikernels operate in user space, which reduces the ability for applications to access critical system elements such as keys and critical areas of memory. Offering a "least privilege” model (applications only get access to resources needed to run the application) reduces the attack space while guaranteeing timing requirements and safety certifiability. The product is being trialed by existing Lynx customers and additional organizations including the Navy, Air Force and Army organizations worldwide, which have seen initial success. This product is the first of its kind and something that only Lynx can offer its customers.

Lynx continues to challenge and upgrade safety and security standards in the aerospace and defense industries through innovative products such as the LynxOS-178 platform that now supports IPv6. Through this, IPv6 can enable devices running on LynxOS-178 with advanced addressing and other enhancements to be better equipped for performance. This allows more requests for comments (RFC) to attain compliance with the most stringent safety certification, DO-178C DAL A. With more technology adhering to this safety certification, Lynx is creating a safer and more secure environment for these mission critical operations.

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):
