    Total 194 words used.

Jarom Chung, Director of Product at Lucid, has played an integral role in reinforcing both the production and culture of the Utah-based company for the last four and a half years. Chung joined Lucid in 2017 after a stint in strategic consulting for medical device, pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Previously, he earned his Ph.D. in Biological and Biomedical Sciences from Harvard University. Each of these stops helped refine both his critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are now incredible assets to Lucid. Jarom began work at Lucid as a Data Analyst, drawn to the product development field through its dependence on data-driven decisions. He hadn’t previously anticipated working in the product space, but noticed a key difference from his time working in strategic consulting. “As a consultant, you do your analysis, give your recommendations, and then you leave,” said Jarom. “As an analyst, I could see those recommendations used to make decisions and improve the business.” Jarom quickly moved up the ranks from analyst to leading product analytics. He eventually shifted to become Director of Product, where he was then able to take his ideas and lead groundbreaking strategies for Lucid.

  4. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the nominee's achievements since the beginning of 2020 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

    Total 236 words used.

Since the start of 2020, Jarom has significantly contributed to Lucid’s product development — most notably his leadership in the launch of Lucidspark. Lucidspark is a virtual whiteboard in Lucid’s Visual Collaboration Suite.

    [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION]

In addition to producing a game-changing new product, Jarom’s investment in company culture has also made an impact across Lucid’s personnel.

This investment is most embodied in a company-wide talk show called The Oatmeal — a show in which Jarom and Lucid engineering manager Kevin Reece spotlight a different Lucid employee each episode. As hosts, Jarom and Kevin have interviewed everyone from C-suite executives to new hires on a wide range of topics. Through each episode, Jarom has helped Lucid team members foster a connection with each of their co-workers across the company — something that was especially valuable when in a remote work environment during the heart of a pandemic.

Jarom will next take his talents to North Carolina, where he will recruit for, and lead, a new office hub for the company, while continuing to lead his team in disrupting the digital collaborative space.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the nominee's past performance (up to 250 words):

    Total 250 words used.

Jarom’s work on Lucidspark contributed to a complete evolution of Lucid’s entire business model. The company went from one flagship product, Lucidchart, to a suite of products, allowing it to offer multiple collaborative solutions to its clients, and contributing greatly to the company’s continued growth.

The significance of Jarom’s contributions to Lucid and the visual collaboration industry also lies in the timing and relevance of those contributions.

At the height of a global pandemic, when widespread remote work had accelerated to unprecedented levels, teams needed a new solution providing a space to facilitate visual collaboration.

[REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] corporate customers had been using Lucidchart, Lucid’s first app in its suite of apps, as a virtual whiteboard and brainstorming medium to discuss ideas while working remotely. While Lucidchart has some of the necessary capabilities, it hadn’t been optimized for that particular use.

Jarom oversaw a team and project to take advantage of this new opportunity and was able to produce a product in just four months, despite the fact most companies traditionally need at least one year for a similar project. More importantly, the product that Jarom and his team launched in October 2020 was the full version of Lucidspark, not a beta.

Jarom’s leadership throughout the launch propelled each of his team members to promotions within Lucid. Also, Lucidspark amassed 1 million users in just six months after its launch.  The app also has integrations with popular industry-leading productivity platforms such as Google Drive, Microsoft, Slack, Zoom, Smartsheet and Jira.

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):

    Total 250 words used.

Jarom’s colleagues and managers have commended him not only on Lucidspark but also his effect on the entire company.

Michelle Fisher, Lucid’s Sr. Director of Program Management:

“Jarom is just one of those people who can do it all. He has deep empathy for the customer and a passion for delivering product experiences that truly solve a need. He also understands the goals of the business, which gives him the ability to successfully find the balance between what the customer needs and the business objectives. Jarom is a fantastic product leader who can see and articulate the big picture vision and then dive deep into the details to help coach and mentor his team to bring that vision to reality for our customers.”

Dan Lawyer, Lucid’s Chief Product Officer:

"Jarom has a fantastic mind for understanding how to create value for our customers as rapidly as possible. Not only did Jarom lead this amazing effort that is now benefiting many users worldwide, but he has also created a team and culture around him where people love to work. In my 28 years of shipping software, what Jarom and team did is completely unprecedented."

Jarom’s work on Lucidspark has also been recognized through various awards. G2 named Lucidspark a 2021Best Remote Work Product and the Software & Information Industry Association named the platform a finalist for its 36th Annual CODiE Awards. Lucidspark also received honorable mention on Fast Company’s first-ever list of The Next Big Things In Tech.
