This type of service was one of the first initiatives of its kind in the IT industry. As one of the first PC manufacturers to bring this type of carbon compensation service to the IT industry, Lenovo CO2 Offset Services seeks to meet customers’ growing desire for eco- transparency in all their purchases and is one of the first in the world to tie dedicated offsets to individual products, to help better understand individual carbon footprints.

While our end goal should always be reducing our environmental impact, carbon offsets when leveraged responsibly and independently accredited – is a powerful tool to drive additional and very needed support towards climate action.

The service works by factoring in estimated emissions across an average lifecycle of the product from manufacture, shipping, usage, all the way to disposal. Through a simple purchase add-on, enterprises and consumers can offset the carbon emissions produced from the manufacture to the shipping of their PC or server, as well as the power consumed over the device’s lifecycle. Working through a third-party global advisor, the funds are channeled towards UN-vetted environmental projects like windmills, solar cells, and renewable energy initiatives, including innovative methods that harness agriculture by-products as a generator for electricity.

One of the key features of the Lenovo CO2 Offset Service is the Sustainability dashboard that gives enterprise customers a single view of the carbon offset metrics across the IT fleet. With simplified reporting, you can manage your carbon footprint from the device level to the entire IT fleet, download confirmation of your carbon offset, and view details of the United Nations Climate Action projects that your offsets support. In case of a global customer with multiple locations, the sustainability dashboard also provides a drill down of the total number of offsets across devices in each location of the customer. There is complete transparency throughout the process and through this dashboard, customers can manage their IT carbon footprint and sustainability efforts in a more transparent and efficient way.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Outline the market performance, critical reception, and customer satisfaction with the product or service to date. State monetary or unit sales figures to date, if possible, and how they compare to expectations or past performance. Provide links to laudatory product or service reviews. Include some customer testimonials, if applicable (up to 350 words):

Since its launch in 2021, the take-up rate of Lenovo’s CO2 Offset Services has been on the rise, with the amount of carbon offset by customers increasing by double-digits quarter-on-quarter. This indicates businesses are increasingly on the lookout for IT solutions that address their ESG-related needs and enable them to reduce their environmental footprint.

Lenovo’s customers have offset more than 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from their purchases of Think PCs (desktops, workstations, laptops). This is the equivalent of greenhouse gases emitted from more than 215,000 passenger vehicles driven over the course of one year. Lenovo CO2 Offset Services was recognized at the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2022 and won the Sustainable Technology – IT services award.

Environmental stewardship goes well beyond carbon offsetting, which is just one tool in the toolbox. We’re leveraging our integrated capabilities across hardware, infrastructure, software, and services, and rallying our partners as well to develop innovative sustainable IT solutions.
