With more than 12,000 tickets claimed, The Home Depot Backyard’s sold out 2022 Juneteenth celebration was an ode to Black excellence and positioned to promote prosperity throughout the local African American community. Through the commitment of our internal departments and partners, we worked together to create a best -in-class experience for the Greater Atlanta community with little to no cost to those in attendace. This free entry, family-friendly experience was hosted on June 18, 2022 and celebrated the magic of black culture with the inclusion of art, live entertainment, local vendors, music, an outdoor movie, fireworks, food, dance, and fun for all ages. We teamed up with The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF) to provide a musical experience celebrating black excellence, which included performances by R&B hitmakers like LeToya Luckett, LaTocha Scott, Sean Garrett, and others while also honoring the 2022 class of trailblazing artists, iconic entertainers, and luminaries who have impacted both Black culture and community. In addition to the inductions, the BMEWOF presentation featured a stage filled with live music, tributes, and montages.

Among the other activations was a kid’s zone for all ages highlighted by inflatables, Marvel characters, face painters, and a multitude of performers - including hula hoop dancers, balloon artists, bubble entertainers, and stilt walkers. In order to amplify the significance and history of Juneteenth, the team created specific activations geared towards educating attendees on the importance of Juneteenth such as a flag decorating station, live muralists, and photo opportunities for the thousands in attendance.
Additionally, we strategically partnered with black-owned businesses to promote economic equity throughout the event. As a result, the event featured a robust vendor village and lineup of food trucks for while also showcasing black artists, producers, and creatives – circulating nearly $100,000 into local black-owned businesses by producing this event.  Notable attendees included Mayor Andre Dickens, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Run DMC’s Rev Run, the Prince Family Estate, and more.

To culminate the Juneteenth Celebration, a fireworks show was on display during the evening with Mercedes-Benz Stadium as the backdrop. The fireworks were in sync with a carefully crafted playlist that celebrated the diversity and range of black music.
