Nomination Title: Housing Equity: Change Is Possible
The date on which this nominated production was first distributed or otherwise made public: September 2020
Promoting action and partnership to reach racial equity in U.S. housing practices, Jeff Hayward, Fannie Mae’s EVP & Chief Administrative Officer, narrates a necessary wake-up call to housing industry stakeholders. The video moves from our nation’s history of government-imposed redlining and its lasting effects to identifying opportunities for positive change. We tell the story through footage of Jeff walking through neighborhoods with quality multifamily housing and historic shots tied together by forward-moving clean graphic elements. The tone transitions from solemnly reflective to positive and upbeat as he addresses solutions and the value of collaboration.
Video context: In July 2020, amid national unrest spurred by the killing of George Floyd, Jeff authored an article for Fortune entitled, “How zoning laws exclude Black families from areas of economic opportunity.” Fannie Mae’s solution-oriented thought-leadership strongly resonated with readers. In this video, we wanted to demonstrateour commitment to a fair and strong housing system for all.
