EVCS, one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging network operators on the West Coast, introduced the expansion of its innovative EV subscription charging plan with new tiers designed to meet the fast charging needs of high mileage commuters and gig drivers. As the only Charge Point Operator (CPO) to offer flat-rate pricing,  all EV drivers can now benefit from EVCS’ simplified approach to public fast charging, which removes time-of-day surge pricing, location-based cost variations, and hidden fees, allowing subscribers to predictably manage their monthly public EV charging budget.

The launch includes two new unlimited charging tiers with access opened to previously excluded commercial drivers, including rideshare and package delivery. New EVCS subscription tiers include:

    • Standard Anytime: Geared towards standard mileage EV drivers commuting less than 1,150 miles per month. The Standard Anytime plan includes 200 kWh of charging with 24/7 access to the entire EVCS West Coast network of Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast chargers. This equates to about seven full charges (20% to 80% charge up) for a 50-kWh battery capacity. Upon surpassing this limit, subscribers flip to pay-as-you-go for the remainder of the month, at a discounted rate of $0.29/kWh (40% off the standard fast-charging rate of $.49/kWh).
    • Unlimited Off-Peak Pro: Designed for higher mileage EV drivers - including rideshare and package delivery - the Unlimited Off-Peak Pro plan offers unlimited charging access through the entire EVCS network during the hours of 10 pm to 6 am.
    • Unlimited Anytime Pro: The new Unlimited Anytime Pro Plan provides high mileage EV drivers - including professional gig workers - unlimited 24/7 access to all EVCS Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast charging locations.

An LA-based driver ranging 3,000 miles per month with an Unlimited Anytime Pro EVCS subscription would save $2,608/yr. in contrast to Pay-per-charge DC fast charging* and $6,565/yr. for regular gas. Through a standard flat rate, EVCS addresses customer confusion around public charging costs, removing a key barrier to widespread EV adoption and supporting California, Washington, and Oregon’s transit sector decarbonization mandates.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Outline the market performance, critical reception, and customer satisfaction with the product or service to date. State monetary or unit sales figures to date, if possible, and how they compare to expectations or past performance. Provide links to laudatory product or service reviews. Include some customer testimonials, if applicable (up to 350 words):

Testimonial from David Shulz, Clean Energy, and Electric Vehicle Reporter - “Before the pandemic, the United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration calculated that the average U.S. driver was driving 1,189 miles per month. In 2020 that number dropped to 1,060 miles but is slowly ticking back up. Depending on how efficient your vehicle is, when you tend to charge and where you live, these exact price points may or may not make sense. But the more your drive, the more likely the subscription model will produce a financial benefit. For drivers logging more than 3,000 or 4,000 miles a month, the subscription presents an enormous opportunity both to save money and to simplify their finances or business model.”

Testimonial from Tesla Driver, “The subscription service is a great deal. It costs me roughly $2/day to drive my Tesla with their network. Gasoline would cost me about $15 per day.  Thanks, EVCS!”

Currently, EVCS boasts 700 charger locations spanning the West Coast. The company is bullish on expanding its network footprint, and growth to be doubled by end of 2023. With that, so does the opportunity to service and grow its subscriber market and base, offering more and more consumers an attainable, reliable, and convenient subscription charging offering.

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):

In an ABC7 broadcast segment and an online feature titled, Making the switch to an EV? This company uses subscription pricing to ease cost at charging stations, prolific automotive journalist Dave Kunz highlights how EVCS’ subscription tiers are helping lower the overall cost of EVs and, thus, creating a more appealing opportunity for consumers that may have been toggling to make the switch.

Additionally, in Automotive News, a well-regarded automotive and transportation outlet, Doug Newcomb highlights EVCS as the only CPO to offer a flat-rate subscription model and commends the innovative subscription model. The article included commentary from Mike Ramsey, a Gartner automotive and smart mobility analyst, who shared, “these prices are quite low and very attractive.”
