Nomination Title: Lena Waters, Director of Marketing

In 2005, Ms. Waters directed EmailLabs’s advertising and event programs and was responsible for managing demand and lead generation for the Sales team. She worked with the Sales team to synchronize marketing messaging, and with the Product team to promote new product developments.  She established new print, online, search and email advertising programs across several vertical markets, supported the Sales team through managing collateral and Web site content creation, and implemented a Key Performance Indicator reporting matrix to measure and improve the effectiveness of all lead generation and branding programs.  As a direct result of her efforts, sales leads increased 153% over 2004.

During 2005, the Marketing team increased from three staff to five, and Ms. Waters was responsible for managing and allocating an increased budget, creating new ads, selecting new marketing vehicles for brand-building campaigns, and supporting an expanding Sales team.  The company gained more than 150 new clients in 2005, was named to Inc. 500’s Fastest Growing Private Companies, and was recognized as one of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.  In October 2005, after continuous growth, the company was acquired by J.L. Halsey, making it part of the largest publicly-held company focused solely on email marketing.

Ms. Waters’s dedication to continually improving the marketing department’s performance and her results-oriented approach has resulted in marked operational improvements and measurable increases in revenue.  Her focus on analytics to drive end results, and management and prioritization skills have made her a valuable part of the EmailLabs team.

Ms. Waters has eight years experience in business-to-business marketing with a focus on interactive and online marketing.  At EmailLabs, she began in a marketing consulting position and was promoted to Marketing Manager and then to Director of Marketing.  Ms. Waters now manages the ongoing marketing operations and directs projects for the six-person marketing team. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Marketing from the University of Northern British Columbia in Canada.
