Osiris Hoil was born in Yucatán, Mexico in 1982. He experienced a lower class upbringing on his family’s farm in Tekax where he helped his parents take care of the property. From a young age, he would often help his parents with the farm animals and prepare meals from ingredients found on the farm. In 2005, he moved from Denver to Arlington, Virginia and began working for a construction company. The 2008 economic collapse hit and Osiris was laid off. In 2009, Osiris and his neighbor, Marc Wallace, got together over some homemade chips and guacamole and decided to launch District Taco as a food truck which operated out of Rosslyn, Virginia.District Taco is differentiated in the market by its Yucatán-inspired menu based on the family recipes of Osiris. By 2022 the company had become a multi-unit restaurant franchise, with 15 restaurants throughout the DC Metropolitan area and Pennsylvania, and over 70 restaurants in development along the East Coast. District Taco’s mission is to serve quality - Yucatán style – Mexican food that is fresh, simple and healthy, with a fully customizable menu that includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

District Taco has successfully expanded into franchising, with the opening of its first two franchise locations in 2023. The company now has 15 restaurants throughout the DC Metropolitan area and Pennsylvania, and over 70 restaurants in development along the East Coast. In July 2022, District Taco sold their 10 millionth taco and rewarded them with a “Top Taco'' title as well as a year's supply of tacos. District Taco also took steps toward sustainability by implementing practices to reduce their environmental impact. In addition to authentic and affordable Mexican food, the brand has also become known for a number of innovative business solutions, including a plant-based protein option from Beyond Meat, and technology that will help position them as leaders in the restaurant industry. That technology includes a custom mobile app, online ordering, self-service kiosks , and a state of the art point-of-sale system. Despite its modest size, the company also has a team of in-house software engineers dedicated to development of a proprietary operations portal to help streamline operations.
