The Dell EMC PowerEdge MX Modular Platform Installation, Implementation, and Administration training program is a part of PowerEdge certification track supported via the Dell Technologies Proven Professional program. The training program needs to be updated to add new offers due to competing priorities for new product development (NPI) work. Thus, the course has high and vested financial interest in the ongoing support and maintenance. Development resource is a big challenge for the organization.

On the basis of business need analysis (BNA) and learning need analysis (LNA), the portfolio management team was looking for a solution which will be easy to update and can be deployed as single source project which indicates develop once and deploy twice. The design and development team for the MX7000 courseware used several strategies and techniques to effectively transfer abstract concepts into concrete information for the learner. Because the learner may receive this information through an instructor or as a self-pace, the design and development was implemented as a developed once, deliver multiple ways strategy. Examples of the unique single-source development are:

    • Descriptive technical language – all concepts were presented using descriptive language text narratives. Concepts were presented as “what is it” precision. For example, “What is an MX740c sled?”
    • MX7000 specific product photographs – product photos were used to bring reality into the concept transfer knowledge for familiarity with the product features.
    • Infographics – the use of descriptive infographics to show how things worked in an MX7000 Modular Platform. Infographics were also used to show relationships with the modular platform and highlight the features in the system. For example, “How to configure the MX7000 networking” or “Deploying the PowerEdge MX7000 chassis”. Many of the infographics preceded the skills training

The MX7000 courseware allows learners to practice skills, such as “configure the MX7000 network” using software simulations. All MX7000 functionality requires the use of management software, such as the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC), Lifecycle Controller (LCC) and OpenManage Enterprise (OME).
