Nomination Title: Dell Encryption

In the battle for data protection, every company is in the trenches. And it’s not an overstatement to say it’s vital to our economy and way of life that companies are equipped with the tools to win against the ever-evolving cyber threats they face from cyber thieves and malicious insiders to the many other threat actors vying for data access every day.

With the advent of quantum computing, these threats will only become more complex and more adept at breaking common encryption methods. Quantum computing may be several years away but—as some leaders theorize—it’s possible nation states are already using it under the radar.

In the fight to help companies protect their data against the threats of today and tomorrow, no PC manufacturer is doing more than Dell, the only PC company to have a line of business dedicated to data and endpoint security. The company has built its innovative security solutions to protect data whether it’s at rest, in motion or in use.

In April 2018, Dell announced key enhancements to Dell Encryption, the company’s data-at-rest solution, to give customers a choice of file-based or full-disk encryption, or both for a dual encryption solution. This helps ensure data is secure across the majority of a business’s computing endpoints, even if it consists of several brands, operating systems and generations of PCs. Dell Encryption can also help manage other encryption solutions (ex. MS Bitlocker and self-encrypting drives). With these enhancements, it provides a solution to meet compliance and reporting, yet gives organizations the flexibility to customize what they deem to require file-level or full-disk encryption.

In addition, the dual encryption ability equips companies to better withstand potential future attacks, such as quantum computing attacks, if and when those become a reality. The U.S. NSA’s Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) Program mandates the need for two layers of encryption to address quantum computing’s theoretical ability to circumvent traditional AES 256 cryptography. Dell Encryption includes enhanced support for CSfC. Moreover, this dual encryption ability is responsible for making Dell Encryption Personal edition the only file-based encryption solution from an OEM to be certified for use in National Security Systems via the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).

These new capabilities enhance an already innovative solution, which was introduced as a rare solution to secure data at rest without requiring trusted workers to undergo burdensome processes to access their own data. It enforces access control policies, authentication and encryption based on user profiles and data sensitivity. In short, if it’s not a file essential to booting the operating system, Dell Encryption can encrypt it without imposing undue burden on the workers who are authorized to access it.

It was designed to provide ease of deployment and management. IT teams can remotely set and adjust policies for their data from a central console while also getting a holistic look into their data security for reporting and compliance. Dell Encryption offers one touch-compliance policy templates, along with quick system recovery for secure business continuity, and supports organizations’ existing processes for patching and more, to make integration and usage easier.

Data protection is only becoming a bigger challenge and a more urgent need. Dell Encryption provides companies the capabilities they need to keep their data protected wherever it goes, from today’s threats and tomorrow’s.

In bullet-list form, briefly summarize up to ten (10) of the chief features and benefits of the nominated product or service (up to 150 words):

-Customers now have a choice of file-based or full-disk encryption, or both for a dual encryption solution.
-This flexibility helps ensure data is secure across an organization’s entire IT implementation, even if it consists of several brands, operating systems and generations of PCs.
-It also gives organizations the oversight and flexibility to customize what they deem to require file-level or full-disk encryption.
-In addition, the dual encryption ability equips companies to better withstand potential quantum computing attacks if and when those become a reality.
-Dell Encryption includes enhanced support for CSfC, and Dell Encryption Personal edition is the only file-based encryption solution from an OEM to be certified for use in National Security Systems via the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP)
