Nomination Title: "Gaining Competitive Advantage Through Automated Publishing"
Tell the story of this nominated product or service (up to 500 words): its function, its features and benefits, and how it differs from competitive offerings. Include in your description the date in 2003 on which this product or service was introduced to the U.S. marketplace:
One of the most important functions of an organization is to capture and share
intellectual content both internally and outside. The simplest form of intellectual
content is email; at the other end of the spectrum are formal publications such as
product catalogs, operating instructions, reference works, legal contracts and
regulatory submissions. Arbortext has focused on the latter: business critical
content that represents the “heavy lifting” of content within an organization.Ten years ago most organizations only delivered their information in print. With
the advent of the Web, every organization found itself compelled to also deliver
information in electronic form. The explosive growth of electronic media over the
last decade has most organizations struggling, and failing, to publish information
that is accurate, consistent, fresh and complete across all types of media.Arbortext 5 software, announced May 2003, is designed to make it easier for
organizations to implement and deploy automated publishing systems. The benefits of an automated publishing system include cost savings as well as
improvements in the accuracy, completeness, consistency, relevance, and time-to-
market of information. Although the potential returns on investing in an automated
publishing system can be very high, the implementation of such a system can be
difficult and expensive. By reducing the pain of implementing that system,
Arbortext allows organizations to expand their application of the technology so
they can achieve savings across more types of documents as well as across more
departments of the organization. While Arbortext software offers many features, the innovations and competitive
differentiation can be found in two key areas – 1) creating content out of small,
reusable components of information that contain their own intelligence (e.g., they
can adjust themselves to a specific audience or specific media type), and 2)
automating the assembly and publishing of that information. The Proof: Arbortext’s software represents a compelling business case because it
combines competitive advantage with provable ROI. Hard results from using our
software include reducing authoring costs 50% by freeing authors from page layout
responsibilities, reducing publishing time by 95% or more by eliminating manual
layout and adjustments, reducing content maintenance costs as much as 20
times by reusing information instead of re-creating it, and reducing translation
costs by 30% by eliminating redundancy.Arbortext software is in use at 95% of leading aircraft manufacturers, 75% of
leading automotive manufacturers, 90% of leading technical/reference publishers
and 80% of leading telecommunication manufacturers. What explains this great
success? Arbortext software reduces costs through reuse and automation,
enhances the customer self-service experience by delivering dynamically
assembled, individually tailored information, and integrates multiple departments
for greater consistency and less redundancy.
