Nomination Title: ALOM - Ensuring Staff Safety While Supporting COVID-19 Medical Relief Programs
For ALOM, a supply chain company headquartered in Fremont, CA, March17, 2020 began as usual. 200 staff were busy performing their duties with 7 production lines in full operation. By 11 a.m. the future of the company was in jeopardy. To slow the spread of COVID-19, 6 Bay Area counties announced shelter in place orders effective at midnight. All non-essential businesses would need to shut down. ALOM management, led by CEO Hannah Kain, hastily met to implement an action plan. ALOM processes 10,000 client orders/day. The logistics of enacting a business continuity plan to relocate inventory and shift production before midnight was daunting. It was a desperate situation. At 4 p.m. ALOM was informed that due to their medical manufacturing and supply chain infrastructure they were deemed an essential business and could maintain operations under strict county health guidelines.
ALOM is being nominated for rapid and successful response to put in place workforce/workplace protective strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that allowed continuous operations resulting in 100% on-time client order shipping and the deploymentof new COVID-19 relief programs.
Having a disaster plan in place paid off for the company. The foresight to invest in technology to support a remote workforce years prior allowed the company to seamlessly maintain business support operations.
To respond to the pandemic, maintain operations and protect its employees/community:
-ALOM executive COVID-19 task force meets daily to monitor status and ensure protective measures followed.
- Comprehensive workplace and on-premises staff safety measures implemented (see attachment).
-All non-production/operations staff set up to work remotely from home.
-Extended personal leave and sick time policies provided to all staff. No staff laid off or furloughed during the slowdown!
-Communication plan implemented to keep staff; clients and suppliers engaged and informed of company operational status and safety measures.
-Govt. PPP loan application and approval assured funding during the business downturn.
-Tirelessly deliver on clients’ existing orders and launch new programs for desperately needed COVID-19 test kits, medical-grade air filtration equipment and PPE. Today ALOM assembles and ships over 1 million COVID-19 test kits every month.
