Nomination Title: Accushield Sign In and Health Screening Kiosk

Senior living communities have been impacted by COVID-19 unlike any other population in the US. According to The COVID Tracking Project, “less than 1% of America’s population lives in long-term care facilities, but as of February 4, 2021, this tiny fraction of the country accounts for 36% of US COVID-19 deaths.” The alarming statistics disclose 161,933 total deaths across 32,130 affected long-term care facilities with 1,276,030 total COVID-19 cases.

Accushield has been serving senior living communities for 8 years, focusing on the safety, security and health of everyone who lives in, works in, or enters senior living communities and nursing homes. The Accushield kiosk allows everyone who enters your work environment to sign in, answer COVID-19 screening questions, record their temperature, and print a health-verified name badge.

Our key success factors are listening to our customers and having the agility to pivot with changes in the market. What started out as digitally signing in and printing name badges for friends and family visiting residents grew to incorporate residents, healthcare providers, vendors and volunteers in senior living communities. As the pandemic hit in early 2020 and less visitors were allowed onsite, communities wanted to better track when staff entered and exited the community. As more was learned about COVID-19 and how it spreads, we expanded our sign-in kiosk offering to include a touchless thermometer to scan temperatures and the ability to ask customized health screening questions upon entering the community. As concerns arose around commonly touched surfaces, we developed a mobile app that works with our kiosks to enable a completely contactless sign-in/sign-out experience.

 As COVID-19 testing has become commonplace and a vaccine has finally arrived, Accushield is developing real-time validation with the labs and pharmacies administering these tests and vaccinations, providing communities with an up-to-date health status of each person entering their building. By partnering with our customers and adapting to changes in the market, we have been able to continuously increase the value of our offering and the impact we make in senior living communities.
