    Twelve years ago, 2600Hz co-founders Darren Schreiber and Patrick Sullivan saw a gap in the telecom industry: carriers that could handle heavy volumes but didn’t offer flexibility, and open-source single-server solutions that weren't designed for scale. To address this issue, Darren and Patrick founded a tech company in a non-traditional manner, without venture capital funding and operating as an open-source project. With this vision in mind, they established 2600Hz and developed a telecom solution that could handle large user capacity and allow their partners to build their own integrations. 2600Hz’s flagship product, KAZOO, is a hybrid cloud communications platform that pairs a suite of prebuilt applications with a library of over 300 open APIs, giving partners both the basic telecom features they need to get started and the developer tools and assets to build their own integrations. Further streamlining and boosting this product, KAZOO 5.x was released in 2021. 2600Hz serves millions everyday, with 4.8 billion minutes processed per year, 650,000 devices under management, 500 servers managed, and 60 countries served. 2600Hz is constantly adding apps, features, and functionality to KAZOO to help partners grow their businesses.

    In the first five months of 2020, we launched six new products: Call Center Pro, a mobile app, a desktop app, video conferencing, a web phone, and SMS, providing partners with even more feature-rich remote collaboration, unified communications, and call center capabilities. These additional tools allowed our partners to expand their product offering and fulfill the evolving needs of their customers. 

    Among the new products released since 2020, the new desktop app presents end users with a streamlined, modern solution to increase their work efficiency.  This new desktop app allows the remote workforce to effortlessly collaborate with superior communication tools. It provides partners with a custom dashboard where all communication tools and activities are in one place. Customers are able to start or join video conferencing in one click, use a webphone from a desktop or laptop, and send, receive, and manage virtual faxes. 

    With the KAZOO 5.x rollout in 2021, we introduced the most redundant and reliable iteration of KAZOO ever built. 5.x has several new features, including the ability to offload raw media to intention services without encapsulating it in a SIP packet as well as STIR/SHAKEN compliance. By simplifying users’ interactions with the platform into a single unified communications channel, KAZOO 5.x also increased overall efficiency, improving call handling rates from 10 calls per second to 60 calls per second. 2600Hz completely overhauled all the back-end plumbing to give customers the most resilient and robust KAZOO yet.

    In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increase in remote work, we reprioritized our roadmap and fast-tracked the creation of our desktop app, bringing it to market in a few short weeks. As a company, we value agility and have incorporated it into our foundation, which enables us to quickly shift our roadmap and priorities with the changing needs of our customers and the market. 

    Upon release of the desktop app, our partners immediately added it to their offering. We received positive feedback from our partners, thanking us for delivering the capabilities their end users needed in such a short amount of time. We continue to work closely with our partners via the 2600Hz Community to streamline the creation of additional features based on their feedback. Since the desktop app’s launch, we have already made a plethora of enhancements to the app based on this direct feedback.

    In addition to our unique ability to create successful products quickly, no other white-label solution on the market includes SIP Trunking, PBX services, video conferencing, call center, messaging, provisioning services, back-office billing, and invoicing all in one unified platform. Most competitors’ platforms, even the “open” ones, are limited in how many APIs customers can run at once. With KAZOO, there are a wide range of customization options available, with over 300 APIs.
