  3. Briefly describe the nominated organization: history and past performance (up to 200 words):

    IBM Manufacturing Solutions (IMS), a subsidiary of IBM Corporation, provides oversight of global manufacturing operations and innovation leadership in advanced manufacturing and industry 4.0 solutions. Located in Singapore, IMS is IBM’s Supply Chain Control Tower.   

    In 2020, the Singapore Government recognised IMS with the “SkillsFuture Employer Award” for championing employees’ skills and career growth.  In 2021 and 2022, IMS won Stevie awards for “Achievement in Human Resource” and “Achievement in Developing and Promoting Women” respectively.  

    One of IMS’s business priorities is to develop and promote women as thought leaders both internally and externally. IMS embraces diversity and takes active measures to support the growth of women as a person. These measures include technical pipeline programs to coach and mentor, BRI workshops to expand network and build influence, as well as a strong community to share experiences and inspire one another.  

    Women employees in IMS are exceptionally experienced in their chosen specialities. They are influential and sought after to share their expertise and views on media platforms, as keynote speakers or panellists  at technical conferences, 5G learning festivals, and business and leadership events.  

    IMS’s accomplishments in developing women as thought leaders is evident in the recognitions received by its employees.

    Each of these women are specialised in different areas. Many turn to them for guidance and they stand out among their peers. Their thought leadership is widely recognised in IBM and industry.  

    2023

    Ritu, JoanYvonne received the IBM Tech Awards as they represented the top 1% of technical thought leaders.  Ritu developed innovative designs and led the migration of applications from on-premise to cloud platforms. Joan spearheaded industry 4.0 transformation in manufacturing locations and provided i4.0 consultancy to clients. Yvonne is chairperson for SC Engineering Audit Committee and leader in Technical Expert Council. She  was selected as SG100 Women in Tech for her contributions to Singapore tech landscape. 

    2022 

    Lynn, winner of Stevie Female Employee award led the Fulfilment Control Tower. Her team also won Stevie Execution Thought Leadership award. Joan received Digital Transformation Leadership award at the Manufacturing Leadership Council. She is recognised as a visionary leader and a role model who promotes digital manufacturing, augmented, virtual reality. Yvonne was finalist of Channel Asia Women in ICT. She provided business value through her deep engineering expertise. 

    2021 

    Ai Kiar, a thinker who brings innovation thought leadership to life. She converts embryonic ideas into viable working solutions using emerging technologies, eg AI, Acoustic Insight. She is an IBM Honory and award winner in Innovation - Channel Asia Women in ICT.  Tun Kim, was awarded SkillsFuture Fellowship by Singapore’s President for being a role model and inspiration to people as master of skill and mentor of future talents.

    The achievements are significant and unique because all women in IMS, regardless of their years of experience, stage in their careers and domain expertise, has the opportunity to grow and develop as thought leaders.  IMS nurtures and elevates women thought leadership within and outside  the organisation. It provides them an environment to bring their whole self to work, have the courage to speak up, share out-of-box ideas and engage in external eminence.  

    Each of these achievements are unique as they straddle across multiple domains – business operational executions; transformational technologies in artificial intelligence, analytics, cloud; technical, engineering, advance manufacturing, and excellence in people and leadership.  These award-winning stories inspire other women to believe in themselves and trust their competencies so that they can take up any role, even those that may be gender biased. 

    The achievements are significant because these women thought leaders not only grow themselves, they also empower others by giving back and contributing to IBM, community and industry.  Examples include volunteering as mentors and coaches to women in tech communities, Singapore P-Tech Program, Singapore Management University; facilitating at IBM Leadership Academy to share knowledge and experiences; providing market insights and industry perspectives to industry committees like the Workforce Development Committee of 5G Academy, Singapore Computer Society, and International Electronics Manufacturing.  

    Finally, these achievements matter as they are strong testimonials that at IMS all women employees can feel confident and be assured that they will be nurtured and groomed to reach their individual potential.
