Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated woman since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

Activities:

-Opened first home in Columbus, OH for a female Ohio Guardsman and her son. This Soldier's home had burned down before she deployed to Afghanistan.

-Opened second transitional home for homeless women Veterans and their children in the DC Metro Area.

-Prevented homelessness for over 50 women Veterans and their children.

-Currently operates the only transitional homes for women Veterans and their children in the DC metro Area.

-Accomplished all of this without state or federal funding.

-Helps women Veterans throughout the country, who are homeless or facing homelessness. Her support has no state lines.

-Saved the lives of me and my children by providing safe and suitable housing.

Because of Jas, Final Salute Inc. is the only non-profit in the DC Metro area that specifically supports the unique housing needs of homeless women veterans and their children; there are an estimated 55,000 homeless women Veterans nationwide. Jas founded Final Salute Inc. due to her life being torn apart by Hurricane Katrina, homelessness and cancer in 2005. At the time, Jas was a single mother in the Army Reserves who was headed to Iraq. Due to her efforts, Final Salute Inc. has supported over 120 women Veterans and children. Jas was selected as 2013 CNN Hero for her dedication and lifesaving work she has done with women Veterans and their children.
