1. Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated company during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):

Boscobel Marketing Communications, Inc., celebrating its 30th year in 2008, is
one of the Washington, D.C. area’s longest-standing branding and public
relations firms. Boscobel provides award-winning branding, public relations,
marketing, graphic design and Web solutions to commercial and government
clients. Founded by branding authority Joyce Bosc, the company is best known for
its landmark work in branding and launching America Online.

Beginning in July of 2007, Boscobel expanded into new markets, including state
and local government, K-12 and higher education, health, and merger and
acquisition communications. This strategic expansion was accomplished in two
ways: by pursuing and winning new clients, and by expanding the scope of
existing client work. This venture into new territory gave Boscobel greater
breadth of experience while helping to grow the agency’s bottom line. Boscobel
achieved a 72% increase in billings in the 2007 fiscal year.

Boscobel developed a suite of repeatable methodologies to better manage the
public relations and to improve results. During the Stevie Awards eligibility
period, Boscobel added two new methodologies: The Customer Speaks ProgramSM, a
formal process for leveraging customers who are willing to speak with the media
about their work with Boscobel’s clients; and Capturing the Knowledge ProgramSM,
a subject matter expert program that captures the expertise within clients’
companies and identifies public relations opportunities to showcase that expertise.

A robust internship program is an important part of Boscobel’s work, providing a
way for the agency to mentor college students interested in public relations,
branding and marketing. Since July 1, 2007, Boscobel has mentored seven interns
from area universities.

Boscobel cultivates an internal culture that is creative, fun and empowering.
Employees work together on integrated client teams to share in the joys and
successes of designing, implementing and managing large campaigns. The team
often gets together just to enjoy the dynamic of so many creative personalities
in one room. This year, employee events ranged from new account celebrations to
margarita parties, baby showers and weddings.
