Charo Santos-Concio’s rise as one of Asia’s most powerful women in media makes a great success story, but what’s more remarkable is how she has led an already established company to greater heights.

The former movie fan turned award-winning actress-turned-producer-turned-media executive has conceptualized strategies and developed solutions to guide ABS-CBN Corporation to another show of creativity, leadership, innovation, and commitment to serve the Filipino people.

Media supremacy

Under Santos-Concio’s leadership, the Philippines’ largest multimedia conglomerate continued its reign in the industry:

Number one TV station in the country in 2013, when all the Top 10 programs were from ABS-CBN, including primetime fantasy series “Juan Dela Cruz” and newscast “TV Patrol.”

Seven of the films produced by ABS-CBN movie arm Star Cinema in the past three years made it to the list of highest-grossing Filipino films, led by “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy.”

These achievements translated to increased company revenues. In 2013, ABS-CBN posted a net income of P2.028 billion. For the first quarter of 2014, its net income reached P503 million.

Market Innovator

Santos-Concio has imbibed ABS-CBN’s pioneering spirit, guiding the company to groundbreaking ventures beyond TV in enriching Filipinos’ lives.

After preparing for the country’s switch to digital terrestrial television, ABS-CBN changed the way Filipinos use their cellphones with the launch of its own mobile telephony brand, ABS-CBNmobile. Apart from text and voice calls, ABS-CBNmobile allows viewers to catch ABS-CBN shows anytime and anywhere through the app version of iWanTV!, ABS-CBN’s online video-streaming website.

ABS-CBN has also entered the theme park business with the construction of Kidzania, one of the world’s fastest-growing family edutainment centers, and introduced a new TV home shopping lifestyle to Filipino consumers through O Shopping.

Public Service

As the leader of the company that lives by its mission “to be in the service of the Filipino people worldwide,” Santos-Concio inspires and unites the ABS-CBN family in responding to needs of the public in distress.

ABS-CBN conducted relief and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of typhoon Pablo, Bohol quake, and typhoon Haiyan – the strongest to make landfall in the world.

It launched the Tulong (which means “help”) campaign that included initiatives such as selling of Tulong shirts and star-studded fund-raising concerts with the country’s leading artists performing pro bono.

Solid Reputation

The support received by ABS-CBN from the public and esteemed institutions also indicate how well Santos-Concio has performed as a leader.

In a show of affinity, hundreds of thousands trooped to ABS-CBN’s two-day 60th year anniversary on-ground event last year to bond with their favorite stars and news personalities.

In 2013, ABS-CBN was awarded Best TV station 7 times, while Santos-Concio received five individual awards. Moreover, she received the Gold Stevie Award for the Woman of the Year category for all Asia-Pacific nations (except Australia and South Korea) at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.

ABS-CBN also garnered the highest possible rating for its recent bond offering, a proof of ABS-CBN’s business track record.

With a keen sense of what Filipinos desire and the passion to fulfill this desire, Santos-Concio has proven she’s not just the best woman, but the best person for her job.
