Nomination Title: David vs. Goliath: A Modern Day Corporate Survival Story

  1. Tell the story about what this nominated company achieved since January 1 2007 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Software entrepreneur Ted Mesa and his company Point&Ship Software, Inc. has
done to the small parcel & mail industry, what Bill McGowan and the MCI
Corporation did to telecommunications in the late 1970s.

Bill McGowan was a telecom innovator, becoming the catalyst that broke up the
MaBell monopoly changing the telecommunications landscape forever. Mesa and
Point&Ship have done something very similar to the Small Parcel & Mail
    industry.

While the Small Parcel & Mail industry is not dominated by one single monopoly,
the big three, DHL, FedEx & UPS have always told their Clients how to ship.
With the big three having dominated the market for over 30 years, clients were
held hostage to their pricing & discount programs. Having a "best of breed"
carrier base was impossible due to the way the carriers made the Client "give
them all the traffic" regardless if they were the best choice or not.

Point&Ship is delivering a revolutionary new way of managing the industry by
designing, developing & delivering Shipping Expense Management Software (SEMS).

    The web-based SEMS is the only enterprise-wide, on-demand, multi-carrier
shipping management solution that streamlines corporate shipping processes,
standardizes procedures & realized cost savings. The proprietary software
provides oversight on express, ground, freight & courier services through all
major carriers, unifying client shipping needs into a single, web-based
interface. With external billing & reporting tools, clients have an additional
level of control to ensure their charges are accurate & appropriate.

Clients can now deploy an enterprise, Web-based platform that gives them the
ability to choose the right carrier, at the right price. They can dictate to
the carriers how and when they ship, and they can finally make the carriers
treat them like the valuable clients they are.

Point&Ship broke all the rules when they created this multi-carrier shipping
software. In the beginning, the carriers refused to work with Point&Ship,
desperately trying to close them down, shut them off, but Point&Ship called on
their Clients, who stepped in, and demanded a better, more intelligent way of
shipping. The Clients told the carriers, "either support Point&Ship, or you
wont be a carrier we use" PERIOD! Start-up Point&Ship was never going to take
down such behemoth, but when the Client loved the SEMS, because of the
visibility & control it provided, the carriers had no choice but to listen, and
    change.

Point&Ship, along with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, is transitioning the industry
forever! Not only have major Fortune 500 & Global 2000 companies become
Clients of Point&Ship, they have forced the carriers to provide "certified"
programs, allowing the industry to be supported and foster growth. The
carriers have finally realized that they can no longer dictate pricing and
discounts based on volume, but have taken the approach of "some is better than
    none".

  3. Provide a brief (up to 100 words) biography about the leader of this nominated company:

Ted C. Mesa, president and CEO, founded the company as QuestNet Communications
Management, Inc. in 1994 as a telemanagement and reseller of overnight shipping
company. By 1998, the company had become the single largest reseller of telecom
for MTC Telemanagement and the largest reseller of MTC Air (shipping). In
2000, Mesa left QuantumShift to focus full time on his shipping management
business, changed the company name to Point&Ship Software, Inc. He saw the need
to implement an enterprise-wide shipping process to manage multiple carriers,
and was the first company to develop a Web-based desktop shipping and billing
    platform.
