Nomination Title: David 'Dadi' Perlmutter

   1. Tell the story about what this nominee achieved since January 1 2008 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

With an increasingly mobile population and a growing reliance on the Internet,
consumers were eager for new devices that delivered the performance to stream
videos, communicate with friends and family, and search for content on-the-go
in a compact, lightweight form factor. Under David ‘Dadi’ Perlmutter’s
leadership and vision, Intel introduced new categories of devices to the
marketplace in the last year that met consumers’ evolving mobile computing
          needs.

As the executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Mobility Group,
Perlmutter led his team in architecting, developing and marketing the Intel®
Atom™ processor, a new family of low-power processors designed specifically for
mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and netbooks. Netbooks are simple, low-cost
Internet devices were designed for basic Internet tasks such as browsing,
social networking and education, and should not be confused with standard
          laptops.

Perlmutter reshaped the global mobile landscape with his vision for a new
mobile Internet experience, which is marked by the growing number of consumers
worldwide who enjoy netbooks and MIDs to view immersive content and communicate
online whenever or wherever they like. While the market for laptops continues
to thrive, Atom sales grew into a $300 million business in the fourth quarter
of 2008, which supports Perlmutter’s vision for new mobile categories: netbooks
and MIDs. In addition, Gartner projected that netbooks will account for eight
percent of the total PC shipments in 2009, the one segment of the PC market
          that continues to steadily grow.

These accomplishments came to no surprise to those who followed Perlmutter’s
career. Perlmutter, the leader behind the new generation of chips and Intel’s
mobile product development decisions, oversaw the development of several high-
          profile technologies, including Intel® Core™2 Duo,Intel® Centrino®, Intel®
Pentium® Pro, Pentium II and Pentium MMX processors. His success can be
credited to his tenacity and management style of encouraging his team to
question everything before making a concrete decision. This includes
Perlmutter’s questioning of Intel’s orthodoxy that speed is the best benchmark
for measuring a chip's value. This insight helped Perlmutter find a fast and
efficient solution nearly four years ago - a core processor that was fast and
had cooling capabilities that were not available previously - for Intel to
remain competitive. Perlmutter continues to approach innovation and management
in this way, and as a result, he continues to drive Intel to the forefront of
          innovation.
