Nomination Title: Best Doctors - Most Innovative Company of the Year

Tell the story about what this nominated organization achieved since January 1 2013 (up to 525 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Despite the “latest and greatest” medical advances in the United States, misdiagnosis is still rampant. Public studies indicate between 15-28% of patients worldwide are getting the wrong diagnosis, a dynamic thought to account for an estimated 700 billion in wasted healthcare dollars, as well as unnecessary costs for employers and employees, needless anguish and in some cases death.

In 2013, Best Doctors unveiled Medting, a cutting-edge, cloud-based software that allows clinicians to easily and securely collaborate while enabling access to shared diagnostic image and video files.

Medting enables physicians to work together on challenging cases, share files and diagnostic images, and build an educational library of medical information. It creates an ideal forum for online tumor boards and other disease-specific meetings by negating time and scheduling conflicts.

Hospitals, medical societies and health systems are using the online collaboration platform to expand physicians’ access to knowledge and shared understanding. Using the Medting enterprise solution, Best Doctors® provides a private, branded forum for each client, wherein the client’s physicians can login and submit a case for peer-to-peer consultation, ask questions of other physicians or conduct training courses for students.

The American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation became an immediate user of the service and they have been emphatic about its success. Over 30 hospital systems in Spain have also been using the service to get more minds working together on their most complex cases.

Best Doctors is playing a leading role in turning traditional notions of health care on their head with its own pioneering approach to the misdiagnosis epidemic. Through its innovative processes, Best Doctors is significantly reducing unnecessary costs for Fortune 500 and 1000 companies and their employees, both in the U.S. and globally, with an average cost avoidance of $6,958 per case, and delivering a return on investment for these companies of at least 1:1.

Through the company’s efforts to deliver the right diagnoses and right treatment for its members, the company reported in 2013 it had corrected or refined diagnoses in 34 percent of cases in the US, and corrected or improved treatment in 68 percent of cases.

Best Doctors believes that the right diagnosis provided the first time around – together with quality, more customized patient care – should be the rule and not the exception and is working toward that being the reality for everyone – no matter where they live. No other company or health care program is doing this to the same degree as Best Doctors, nor can any other service lay claim to the same level of service or return on investment.
