Nomination Title: Stoneware's webNetwork 6.1

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

In today’s fast-paced world, people use a myriad of devices on a daily basis – from smartphones to tablets to laptops to desktops, even TVs – to connect to applications and files. Many of these exist locally, but increasingly, we find them on the web. Services like Google Docs and Dropbox make it easier than ever to open a document, edit it, and share it with others.

However many of these services lack all the features found on their laptop or desktop versions. Others require a high-speed connection to work even passably well. Add to that the complexity of having to manage different passwords to different sites, and you can see that it is not a simple move away from traditional client computing.

Stoneware's webNetwork™ is software that helps IT create a Unified Cloud Platform to unify or federate all these resources. A unified cloud is where files, applications and reports from the public cloud, private data centers, and individual devices can be accessed from one location, all through a universal webDesktop. Furthermore, this webDesktop can be accessed via a single password, giving individuals access to all their resources without having to remember hundreds of different passwords.

Since 2000, Stoneware has been working to make the vision of a Universal webDesktop a reality. We believe that users want access to files, applications and reports, and they don’t care that it doesn’t come in a Windows desktop. Access and a consistent experience are the most important factors. And everyone knows how to use a browser, making the transition away from a Windows desktop to a webDesktop seem more natural.

However, unlike other cloud solutions, webNetwork comprehends the end user device, delivering an appropriate experience based on the device. Through Intelligent Application Delivery™, IT can take into account the characteristics of the end user device and deliver the best experience based on cost, location, and other factors. Instead of reducing the web experience to the lowest common denominator, webNetwork allows cloud services to adjust to the hardware.

But webNetwork is not just about making access easier for end users. There are powerful features built into the produce to allow IT to manage, monitor and secure access for their users. Being able to provide secure remote access to files, applications and reports without a VPN, or being able to leverage their existing directory structure to deliver this access means that IT can retain control while making their users happy.

With thousands of customers trusting Stoneware to help them build a Unified Cloud platform, it is easy to see why more and more people are comfortable moving to a more web-centric world.
