"HR Connect - Boardgame" is an innovative tool designed to support leadership development by focusing on human resources processes and real life challenges that people managers have to handle frequently. The Boardgame created for to be managers, team leaders and decision makers; aims to improve their command of HR processes and practices, enabling them to manage complex situations which they may encounter by the right approach. Through case studies that players act together, it allows them to observe different perspectives of leader/team member relationship.
As SOCAR Türkiye HR teams, we believe that processes must be developed in response to evolving dynamics such as different needs of generations or changing work environment, we closely follow insights to guide this development and design the processes. Primary reason that led us to design HR Connect - Boardgame was the feedbacks from employees that formal learning activities alone are not sufficient for leadership development. They need more simulation-based practices and struggle to answer questions as they are not fully competent of HR processes (such as compensation management, career management, etc) These feedbacks lead us to gamified learning approach. “HR Connect” is the general branding of our HR activities where HR come together with employees. That is why the "Boardgame" was created under HR Connect branding by the sponsorship of GAS Business Unit CEO and CHRO. Main reason to design a physical game rather than a digital game is to create an accessible and user friendly experience that everyone working across different locations (office/field employees) can equally participate. The game develops leaders' theoretical HR knowledge on an enjoyable platform as well as supports the culture of social learning. Players collaborate, strategize, and navigate through dynamic situations that mirror the complexities of today’s workplace, strengthen their decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.
The game consists of 7 topics: "leadership, onboarding & offboarding processes, performance management, career & talent management, training & development, compensation & benefits management, and recruitment." There are 3 types of questions; open-ended, true/false, and role-play— a total of 150 questions.
During the development process, pilot sessions with five groups has been conducted: Corporate Center HR team, GASBU C-level Management Team; who supports and follows closely the development of the game, and 3 mixed group from GASBU target audience who will directly experience the game. Game finalized based on pilot feedbacks.
