    Project Description:

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have collaborated to construct 10 Truck Rest Stops strategically located across Dubai's major roads. These rest stops are designed to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and provide essential amenities for truck drivers. The rest areas cover over 75,000 square metres with an operational capacity exceeding 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles and 700 parking slots. Facilities include service amenities, prayer rooms, diesel refueling stations, and driver rest rooms.

The trucks rest Stops strategically distributed across key locations, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai - Hatta Road, Dubai - Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali - Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road, all of which attract a high volume of daily truck traffic.

    Concept & innovation:

The construction of these rest stops is a significant step towards improving road safety and enhancing the overall efficiency of the trucking industry in Dubai. By providing designated rest areas, the initiative aims to reduce truck-related accidents, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve the working conditions of truck drivers. The strategic placement of these rest stops, coupled with their comprehensive facilities, addresses the growing needs of the trucking industry and promotes sustainable transportation. This need arises from the high volume of truck trips in Dubai, which exceeds 300,000 daily trips, carrying approximately 1.5 million tonnes of goods daily.

    Value:

The project delivers significant value to Dubai and its residents:

    • Enhanced Road Safety: Reduces truck-related accidents and improves overall road safety.

    • Improved Traffic Flow: Alleviates traffic congestion by providing designated parking areas for trucks.

    • Driver Well-being: Provides essential amenities for truck drivers, promoting their health and safety.

    • Economic Benefits: Supports the logistics industry by providing essential infrastructure and services.

    • Community Impact: Minimizes the impact of truck traffic on residential areas.

    Delivery & impact:

Constructing truck rest stops enhances traffic safety by reducing truck-related incidents by 50%. These facilities improve traffic flow during truck ban periods, promote traffic awareness among truck drivers, and eliminate the parking of trucks on main roads and in residential areas.

The successful delivery of this project is a testament to the strong partnership between RTA and ADNOC. By leveraging their expertise and resources, the two organizations have been able to deliver a solution that addresses a critical need in Dubai's transportation sector. The project's impact is expected to be significant, with positive effects on road safety, traffic flow, and the overall quality of life for truck drivers.
