Following the devastating earthquake that struck on Monday, February 6, 2023, aid from across our country began to pour into the affected regions. However, due to logistical challenges in organizing these contributions, reports surfaced of thousands of clothing items left scattered along roadsides.
In the face of this challenging time, we contemplated how we could provide essential textile items for babies in the healthiest and most sustainable way possible, which led to the launch of our project, ‘From Me to My Sibling - Transformation Basket.’
In the first phase of our project, we placed a collection basket in our Bostancı store, encouraging parents to donate baby clothing and toys, whether lightly used or unused, by dropping them into this basket. Through this initiative, we aimed to set a meaningful example of upcycling. The donated items were meticulously sanitized and packaged, then sorted into boxes for delivery to those in need. The trust our parent community placed in us, along with the enthusiastic response to our project, enabled us to expand the initiative to all 80 of our stores by year’s end.
To promote our project, we utilized social media posts, in-store announcements and visuals, press releases, influencer partnerships, and announcements on ebebek.com.
By the end of 2023, we had distributed a total of 38,734 clothing items and toys, with a particular focus on the earthquake-affected areas. In November 2023, we visited container cities in Hatay to directly witness the impact of our project and personally deliver our items to families in need. The smiles on each baby’s face upon receiving our gifts reminded us once again of the profound value of our project.
Moving forward, we plan to continue this initiative in collaboration with the Lokman Hekim Health Foundation, aiming to deliver over 100,000 items to those in need by the end of next year.
