Abu Dhabi Sports Council, organisers of the UAE Tour, are pleased to confirm the full list of teams participating in the 2023 edition of the UAE Tour, taking place from 20-26 February. Across seven stages, sixteen UCI WorldTeams will be joined by four UCI ProTeams that will race along the unique roads of the Middle East, starting and finishing in Abu Dhabi. The UAE Tour has seen its two most recent General Classification victories go to UAE Team Emirates, with Tadej Pogacar winning both editions in 2021 and 2022. Mitchelton-Scott (now Team Jayco-AlUla) secured the lead the year before with Adam Yates topping the standings in 2020, and in 2019, Primoz Roglic of Jumbo-Visma secured the race's first-ever red jersey.
The UAE Tour is the only event that crosses the emirates and promotes the beauty of the country and its iconic landmarks to a global audience across 200 countries. It was first held in 2019 as part of the UCI World Tour. It was created as a result of the merging of the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour. The UAE Tour consists of seven stages to symbolize the seven Emirates in the UAE. Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council.There are four jerseys in the UAE Tour each representing a colour of The UAE Flag and each of the colours highlights an attribute Red is for Leadership and Energy, Green is for Challenge and Strength, White is for Future and Hope, and Black is for Sprint and Effort.The UAE Tour ‘Unity’ Trophy is heptagonal with seven sides representing the seven emirates of the UAE. It is named ‘Unity Trophy’ as a nod to the Union of the UAE in 1971. It is gold-plated and depicts the richness of the colour of the sand and the sun of the Middle East.The mission of the UAE Tour is to promote the UAE with a goal of increasing tourism, promoting assets and cementing the UAE as a destination for cycling not only regionally but globally.As one of the few global sporting events held that year, The UAE Tour was under strict Covid Bubble. This entailed following strict testing regulations along with separating the different departments via a color-coded bracelet system. Teams were separated from organization staff and the organization staff itself was split into 2 groups. Staff that had to interact with outside contractors were placed in one hotel whereas staff that had to manage race operations (and be closer to the teams) were placed in another hotel. Interaction between the two staff groups was only allowed at a safe distance and at the start/finish locations dedicated corridors were created to separate the two.As global Covid regulations eased the 2022 edition of the UAE Tour saw adapted measures to ensure a safe event environment.Regular testing continued to be held for all teams and staff involved and measure were put in place to keep a safe distance between the general public and teams/event staff. The bracelet system of the previous year was also kept in place to control the movement and interaction between the various event staff.
