Nomination Title: Karen Abramson, CEO

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

Since joining the Tax and Accounting division, Karen Abramson has seen award-winning products launched, held customer forums across the globe, and driven technology and innovation across the organization. But what really sets Karen apart from other executives is that she understands that the key to success is the nexus of operation and strategy, i.e. a strategy without the ability to execute is like having no strategy at all. What she has done in the past year and continues to do is build a global vision, a strong strategy driven by customer insights, and the processes to drive execution.

Globally the Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting business had just over 1.3B in 2016 revenues, with 4% organic growth. Its 5,000+ employees operate in more than 20 countries and it has been repeatedly recognized for innovation:

-Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting – 2017 Golden Bridge Awards Grand Trophy Winner
-Dinkum - 2017 China Best Audit IT Solution Award
-CCH iQ -Gold Stevie® Award in 2017 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards

Karen drives innovation both externally and internally, launching groundbreaking products that are challenging the norms within the industry and improving the lives of tax professionals. In Europe, the division is preparing for the launch of CCH OneClick, a cloud-based collaboration tool that increases automation and efficiency, while in the US the division is helping accountants search less and do more with the debut of CCH AnswerConnect. An intuitive tax research platform, CCH AnswerConnect represents a major step forward in how Wolters Kluwer leverages its industry-leading tax information, replacing traditional search and retrieve with a question-and-answer model. In Brazil, the division launched cloud collaborative accounting with the introduction of BEEWork, BRAINLab and EASY4all. The division also launched TeamMate+, an audit power tool that delivers a modern and streamlined approach to effective and efficient internal audits. Finally, CCH IQ debuted in Australia, which incorporates AI and data automation – key trends that are changing the way professionals work.

A crowning achievement for Karen was the 2017 acquisition of Tagetik, a leading global provider of corporate performance management software and services that expanded the division’s existing portfolio of corporate tax compliance and internal audit solutions. This acquisition allowed Wolters Kluwer to expand into a high growth adjacent market space – the Office of the CFO – which is currently undergoing significant transformation.

Throughout a busy and successful year, Karen has remained focused on weaving a culture of innovation across the global Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting organization. Her commitment to employees is regularly felt throughout the year with exciting internal events to encourage employees to bring forward innovative ideas.

Finally, Karen exemplifies the newly-launched Wolters Kluwer values in everything she does and drives them throughout the division. Under Karen’s leadership, Tax & Accounting employees are proud to aim high and deliver, win as a team, make it better and focus on customer success.
