Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated woman since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

Frances Moreno is a successful business leader, a philanthropist, and an entrepreneur whose company is the largest LA firm in its industry launched and operated by a woman. Frances co-founded Vaco Los Angeles, LLC, which specializes in Finance, Accounting, Tax, Audit, and Technology for consulting, executive search, and strategic staffing. Under Moreno’s leadership, Vaco has pioneered a unique corporate culture built on flexibility and work/life balance. Moreno runs a successful business, gives back to her community, has transformed the workplace, and has helped thousands find jobs in her 15 years of service to her community.

From her modest start raised by a single mother alongside 8 older siblings, Moreno was inspired by her grandmother and adopted her strong will and unrelenting work ethic. Moreno began her career working at the state capitol in Sacramento and later became a Big 4 CPA. When Moreno founded Vaco Los Angeles, she had three young children, including a daughter with special needs, so she structured Vaco to allow her to maintain control of her career, well-being, and time. She built the company to offer a high degree of flexibility not just for her, but for her staff and the consultants and candidates she places, with flexible schedules and telecommuting options.

One of the keys to Vaco’s success has been this culture of empowerment, autonomy, accountability, and flexibility. This has resulted in Vaco Los Angeles being named #1 Best Place to Work in Los Angeles four times, with placement on the list for the last nine consecutive years.

Moreno is deeply committed to the community and serves on the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Board of Directors and on the Girl Scout Board Development Committee. She also chairs the audit committee and co-chairs the annual gala for Kidsave, a leading child advocacy organization for older foster children in the U.S. and orphans worldwide, and has helped raise over $800,000 for the organization.

This year, under Moreno’s leadership, Vaco launched a new initiative contributing to the expansion of the Los Angeles tech startup community. The new Finance & Tech Enterprise Solutions practice focuses specifically on the needs of the Silicon Beach tech startup culture. Tech startups need many high performers very quickly to meet competitive R&D and fundraising requirements and Vaco provides them with these critical interim consultants and full-time employees in finance, accounting, and technology. Vaco is an important partner to these clients and this new practice has driven increased revenue and expanded market size.

Moreno’s other key accomplishments include:

Named 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award, Los Angeles Women’s Summit Awards, Los Angeles Business Journal
Frances grew her company’s revenue to nearly $30 million, an increase of over 10% over last year
Expanded staff by 30% percent
Over 450corporate clients and accounting firms rely on Frances’ firm for their hiring solutions
Vaco has placed over 3,000 people in jobs
Received Women of Color Award, Women’s Presidents Organization, November 2016

As a successful entrepreneur and community leader, Frances Moreno is truly deserving of the Woman of the Year Award.
