Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
The advent of Digital Disruption requires most organisations to rethink their business strategies. Two significant aspects had been identified as game changers, across the globe –Digital Based Agile Deliveries and an Innovative Workforce & Culture. Most organisations had embarked on Digital and Agile reskilling. Very few organisations had success on creating or recreating cultures to match business strategies.
Large scale organisations find themselves often difficult to pivot to newer industry demand, with every disruption expecting significant speed and readiness for change.
For Tata Consultancy Service, a 50 year old trusted corporate IT giant, with a market cap of 100+Billion Dollars, it was not a very different discussion in the board room.
“Reskilling is not a concern. But, how does one take a 50 year old organisational culture and align it again? It cannot be just from direction from the top, with a 400,000 workforce.
And, what about the employees – are they ready for change? What is in it for them?”
In a bid to help, Nidhi, an INSEAD alum, with 18 years in business and IT, moved into HR to create the ‘Personal Excellence Academy’. Her goal was to enable the employees to be better humans. Agility and Innovation should be a natural by-product of a healthy, motivated and aligned workforce. She was convinced anything else would be putting the cart in front of the horse.
With that approach, an 8 month Academy was created with 4 levels – Personal, Leadership, Business and Customer – including workshops followed by online classes. An end to end holistic structured, inner passion and outer dynamism, was born.
Within a year, enrolment went from 25 to 500 in one batch. Employees gravitated towards it naturally, the results were phenomenal as people flew in from other cities & countries on their own costs throughout.
There were many challenges for Nidhi as the program scaled. Getting the connect right was crucial. Collaborating across the many businesses to deliver in time was fierce. Communicating constantly the uniqueness of approach, its potential, the need for time and the right measures, was critical.
With each incoming challenge, she only got bolder - creating many firsts in perception and product, in the industry- including the first world’s largest academy to attempt transformation at scale among corporates.
Her program is now a CEO Initiative and is to be scaled to all 400,000 associates.
The Success Stories:
Results started flowing. Associates reported that their lives had changed. Spouses, friends and families called her to share stories of the transformation they felt.
Business and customer results maximised - some account saw revenues quadruple in the quarter, some raised their CSI (Client Satisfaction Index) from 65% to 92%, winning multi-million dollar deals and winning new customers come in - among other success stories
The Ripple Effect:
Participating associates taught 30,000 other associates, on their own accord. Passions spurted as authors, artists burgeoned and vivacious teams emerged.
Clients, working directly with the associates, have requested for the program for their own workforce.

Nidhi Raina is the Global Head of Personal Excellence Academy (PE) at Tata Consultancy Services. This Academy, has transformed the lives of over 3,000 executives in a short span of three years, delivering quantitative transformations at a large scale. She is an INSEAD alum and has experience of over 18 years in varied roles, including Business, Sales and Consulting.
