Nomination Sub Category: Female Executive of the Year – Business Services –11 to 2,500 Employees
Nomination Title: Pam Sexauer, Executive Vice President
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
She handwrites a personal card of congratulations to each and every one of the 600 coworkers in her company for their birthday and work anniversary. Not just a scribbled signature and generic card … an actual message to each coworker. The impact of this gesture might be lost unless you’re one of the recipients. “Even if my own mom forgets, I can always count a card in my mailbox from Pam,” says one office coordinator.
Pam Sexauer, the Executive Vice President of Roth Staffing Companies, has been doing this since she started with the company 16 years ago as a Regional Manager who quickly impacted the growth of the largest business line, Ultimate Staffing Services (now ranked the 11th largest office staffing company in the U.S.). Today she works alongside the CEO to implement the strategy and vision of Roth Staffing’s six specialized business lines.
In 2015, it was her charge to work with each regional team and each branch office to help implement the complicated strategies for the year designed to increase headcount, improve sales activity, and enhance employee engagement. She’s at her desk by 5 a.m. in California to begin conversations with branches on the East Coast and she’s at it until 7 or 8 p.m. each night to tie up loose ends. That’s a typical day when she’s not traveling. She has visited every one of her 117 offices in 22 states the past year and does so every year (plane rides and taxis are great opportunities to catch up on writing and sending cards).
“I was so nervous when Pam was scheduled to visit,” says Cece Sisneros, a new Business Solutions Manager, “But she whirled in through the doors and made us feel right at home. She was so much fun, we laughed all day, and before I knew it she was helping implement better business practices without ever feeling like we were in the wrong. I can see why we have one of the best staffing companies in the industry – with an executive leader like Pam at the helm.”
Pam’s strategic leadership, indefatigable work ethic, and compassion have certainly paid off. Roth Staffing Companies just experienced its most successful year in its 21-year history generating $350 million in revenue with Total Gross Profit up by 12% when the rest of the industry experienced an average 4% increase! In addition to generating more revenue than ever, the company made more hires in 2015, increasing headcount by 23% - 150 new hires!
Just last month, Roth Staffing Companies was ranked by FORTUNE as one of the 100 Best Workplaces for Women for a second consecutive year.
Pam helps lead a 10-person executive team including 7 women, which just so happens to represent the population of the entire company where 69% of coworkers are women and 72% of managers are women.
“We never realized this until Fortune recognized us and specifically asked for this data,” says Pam. “We never sought to create a workplace where women would excel, we’ve built an organization where EVERYONE feels they are treated equally.”
