Nomination Title: Jessica Pollack - from building hospitals to building innovation

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated employee since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

Jessica Pollack is a Field Trainer at PlanGrid, the leader in construction productivity software. In this role, Jessica has helped thousands of PlanGrid customers realize productivity gains through mobile technology adoption. From heavy civil to tenant improvements to commercial real estate, Jessica leverages her technical and industry experience to design workflows that reduce rework and inefficiencies.

Over the past year, Jessica has traveled to over 60 cities to consult with roughly 200 different organizations that have chosen PlanGrid as the platform to standardize their field operations on construction jobsites. Over 1,300 of them have attended one of Jessica’s classes over the past year on how to use PlanGrid’s software to be safer, more productive, and effective. The average person who takes a class from Jessica is a blue collar worker (not a college graduate, 40+ years old, and male). Many traditional software consultants would struggle to connect with an audience outside of the scope of technology consumers, but Jessica rises to the challenge every time.

A recent review from one of these trainees summarizes it best: “As an out-of-touch non-computer literate dinosaur, I never thought any technology would work for me. My boss was pretty sure he was wasting his time on money on this training session. Well I fooled them all as it’s now one of the only computer programs that I actually enjoy using on a daily basis; and the training session was extremely helpful.”

These construction workers have self-reported a savings of 1-3 hours per day in their work because of this training, adding up to thousands of hours based on Jessica’s work.

Notable organizations that have consulted with Jessica include Webcor, Cupertino Electric, and Colorado DOT. Webcor represents the contractor segment of the construction industry, Cupertino Electric is a prominent subcontractor, and Colorado DOT is obviously a significant horizontal owner of heavy civil projects that impact millions of Americans. Through creativity, persistence, and grit, Jessica has transformed business operations at all three of these companies as they now report being able to achieve their goals of paperless jobsites and dramatically reducing human error with streamlined operations.

In addition to Jessica’s customer-facing responsibilities, she has also personally overseen product training for every single PlanGrid employee over the past year, which translates to over 100+ new employees. This is critical for a fast-growing startup. She’s also been an important voice of the customer on various R&D workgroups, representing the needs of customers for specific types of product development. The deep knowledge and insights provided by Jessica stem from a deep understanding of customers, having empathy for those who have been historically ignored by Silicon Valley and a massive tech transformation wave, and background in the construction industry. Jessica has also taken on multiple leadership roles within the consulting department, helping to coach new employees, keep product training materials updated, and develop new and innovative training packages to continue pushing the department forward.

Jessica is a one-woman army and has single handedly made a sizable impact on the construction industry through her consulting, training, and internal work in the past year as described above.
