Nomination Title: Taryn Owen, President

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

Taryn Owen learned early to see opportunity where others might see obstacles. Growing up the daughter of a hardworking teenage mother in a small town in Southeast Kansas, Taryn found security and deep motivation when she recognized that hard work and good performance brought opportunities. This knowledge, coupled with her innate ability to envision what’s next, inspired Taryn to remain focused on the goal of creating a better life for herself and her mother despite the obstacles she faced.

Now the proud mother of four and the President of PeopleScout, Taryn continues to envision what’s next for PeopleScout’s clients and its more than 2,000 dedicated talent professionals around the globe. Under Taryn’s leadership, PeopleScout has grown 350% through a combination of organic growth and acquisition, connecting more than 300,000 job seekers with full-time employment in 2016.

Last year, Taryn successfully led PeopleScout through the significant acquisition of Aon’s Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) division – managing an aggressive timeline to nearly double the company’s size and open five new global delivery centers. Over the past twelve months, Taryn has also guided the integration of Managed Service Provider (MSP) operations into PeopleScout from a sister company to evolve with the changing talent landscape.

To ensure the success of these major integrations, Taryn established a One Global PeopleScout management strategy, allowing the organization to operate as one team that engages all employees – both acquired and legacy, U.S. and global. Taryn’s insistence on an inclusive and transparent culture has enabled the organization to surpass all employee engagement goals and achieve industry-leading employee retention through this high-growth period.

Taryn’s successful integration strategy, coupled with her empowering leadership style and passion for delivering world-class service, has also enabled PeopleScout to achieve a 98% client retention rate and 95% client expansion through this period. In 2016, the PeopleScout team was proud to be recognized for placing more U.S. military veterans in full-time employment than any other recruitment firm in the world and for being named a top ten Military Friendly Employer and a Military Friendly Spouse Employer.

In 2017, PeopleScout was ranked the No. 1 MSP provider on HRO Today Magazine’s MSP Baker’s Dozen Customer Satisfaction Ratings and was named both a top Enterprise RPO and top Healthcare RPO provider on the Baker’s Dozen for RPO Providers. PeopleScout’s industry leadership has also been recognized by key analysts including NelsonHall, Everest Group and the Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA).

Taryn is a sought-after industry expert, consulting with the Obama Administration in 2016 on the issue of long-term and veteran unemployment, and her accomplishments have been recognized by numerous industry awards, including the 2016 HR Superstars and SIA’s 2017 Staffing 100 and Global Power 100 for Women in Staffing.

Recently, Taryn completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School, earning honorary alumni status. As one of the first in her family to graduate from college, completing an MBA-level program while working full-time was particularly meaningful for Taryn. While all of Taryn’s accomplishments require sacrifice, she hopes that she is making her mother proud and demonstrating for her children what she learned early, that with hard work comes opportunity.
