Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated entrepreneur since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
My name is Mina Lux. I am an immigrant, a dreamer, an engineer, a coder, a marketer, a leader and an entrepreneur.
My first startup was FloNetwork – the first Email Service Provider technology sold to DoubleClick for $80M in 2001. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of launching/growing digital businesses in startup environments within large corporations.
However, one day, I found myself itching to build another technology. I wanted to automate data analysis/mining/digging/learning, so companies can spend more time solving their business challenges. Thus, the birth of Meelo.
Meelo is a technology company that works across industries, connecting information to put clients in the know. It is an automated strategic intelligence platform that consolidates data of all kinds and automatically surfaces signals and valuable information to enable companies to strategize and react with speed and confidence.
Our patent-pending algorithms has attracted the attention of leaders in the tech industry. In fact, Meelo is the only company that holds partnerships with the two largest think tanks in the cognitive technology and artificial intelligence: IBM Watson and Cal Tech/Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL). Meelo is able to take advantage of the technology from both think tanks to solve any problem and provide intelligence for any need.
In May, Meelo won the TiE50 2016 Top Startups award in San Jose. I was invited to represent Meelo at TiEcon, the world’s largest conference for entrepreneurs, to share Meelo with over 5,000 investors, industry experts, press, and peers from across the globe. We were also selected to join VCconnect which puts Meelo on a short list of companies to receive advice and support through TiE Silicon Valley’s ecosystem.
Just a few weeks ago, I was selected to receive the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Faculty of Engineering Alumni at the University of Ottawa, my alma mater. With this recognition, I will be a lifetime member of the Faculty of Engineering Alumni Advisory Board assisting in combining engineering, design, and entrepreneurship at the university.
I have always enjoyed working with young people, growing the business while growing their skill sets. Throughout my career, I’ve had the good fortune of supporting young women in their careers by offering them guidance and opportunities in organizations that are often dominated by men. When I spoke at International Women’s Day #MakeItHappen series presented by the University of Ottawa, it was a pleasure to share my story, to inform and to inspire the next generation of women to pursue their ambitions and dreams. We discussed the steps of building a company from recognizing a need, dreaming up a solution, solidifying funding, running a company and confronting challenges head on. But most of all, I wanted to highlight the importance of never under value your own brilliance and to believe in yourself.
Meelo is a place where ideas are appreciated and exchanged company-wide. Employees are encouraged to think big, work hard, aim high, and learn from each experience. At Meelo, all voices are heard, all talents are valued, and all have an equal opportunity to succeed. Together at Meelo, we work on humanizing data to empower people.
