Nomination Title: Karen Jones, Founder & CEO
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated entrepreneur since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Karen Jones, a female entrepreneur who founded Jones Publishing (Citywealth) in London twelve years ago - a publishing and events platform connecting the global wealth management industry – has re-invented herself as a technical entrepreneur, moving away from a traditional publishing role to the online world with http: //www.leaderslist.co.uk/ .
One of the biggest products for Citywealth for the past twelve years has been the publication of the printed annual Leaders List, a 200+ page directory of top wealth management professionals - lawyers, accountants, private bankers, trustees, who deal with private UHNW clients.
Aware of the ongoing development away from printed press and towards digital platforms, Karen invested during 2016/2017 £60,000 with supplier Bumblebee design to create a new online community of Leaders List. It allows wealth professionals to promote their expertise; gather star ratings from clients and peers; submit recent case studies to explain their work and attract testimonials. Star ranking is based on fee charged, quality of service, interpersonal skills. Featured members are invited to upgrade their profiles with photos and biographies using a fully automated online payment facility utilising Stripe, ChargeBee and Shopify.
List divided into categories according to function of business, and whether the search is for individuals, charities or companies. Also includes editorial segments such as Top Star Ratings, Top 20, CEOs, Powerwomen (of which the IP owned by Citywealth).
Up till now Leaders List has 6,200 users. 420 case studies and over 1000 verified testimonials added to the site. 70 organisations have paid for upgraded profiles in last month since launch.
This new interactive list is particularly useful when charities and UHNW individuals are looking for recommended wealth managers and advisors. The Leaderslist portal will change the way the industry finds clients by offering UHNW individuals facility to find them through Google searches directing them to the portal through the relevant, niche content loaded on the site. Citywealth was recently contacted with a £7m instruction to find an investment manager to satisfy trustees for a charity.
The feature is particularly beneficial to women. At present, business development for women professionals, according to London School of Economics, is less effective because of lack of legacy from working mothers and grandmothers. Consequently, the facility of hiring people via an easily accessible online platform transforms business opportunities for women.
Karen has closely followed the latest trends and innovations in the digital world and social media. She spotted the report that UHNW clients and charities are spending SIX hours a day on their phones searching for information. She also noted that the LeadersList has become one of the most successful searches on Google to find private wealth professionals.
Karen’s new interactive Leaders List is a significant development in communication for the 3000 + Citywealth members, whose assets under management total in excess of several trillion $ globally.
In 2017 Citywealth ranked again no 1 in Best Brand & Reputation IP Asset Classof the IP Top 100 League Table that scores companies on their Intellectual Property. Assessors were particularly impressed with the proprietary software developed on the website for clients to send data - resulting in reduced use of emails.
