Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated organization since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Started in 2005 as a one-woman consultancy, JMA Solutions now employs 150 full-time professionals and over 50 subcontractors on 20+ prime contracts. JMA is 100% woman-owned and run by a female CEO and two female senior vice presidents and in 2015, we celebrated our tenth anniversary. Additionally, we were #94 among Black Enterprise’s BE 100s in 2015. Also in 2015 and 2016, we were named one of the Inc. 5000: Fastest Growing Private Companies in America. Finally, the Washington Post named us among the 2016 Top Workplaces in D.C.
This year, we received several important certifications, which give our customers even more confidence in our commitment to provide unparalleled quality and customer service. We completed our ISO 9001:2008 certification, a Veteran Institute Procurement (VIP) GROW certification, and a Women-Owned Small Business certification from the NWBOC.
Our growth continues to outpace our competitors. Since July 2015, JMA has received nine new prime contracts, which will generate $21M and 60 new full-time positions by July 2018. Over the past four years, we doubled our full-time staff; and increased sales revenues by 120%. Within the past year, JMA’s revenue has grown by roughly 20%, totaling $32.8M (December 2015). Our current and previous clients include Department of State, FAA, GSA, NASA and the Veteran’s Administration.
Our services have been recognized at high levels within customer agencies. In August 2015, the FAA Air Traffic Organization Chief Operating Officer, Teri Bristol, presented the JMA Radar & Communications team with an award for their smart planning and execution, which will extend the FAA's primary En Route radar life cycle over the next 20 years. A Technical Operations Lead said, "There’s working hard, and then there’s working smart ... the best program ever executed.”
We are also very proud of our philanthropic work. On average, JMA donates five to seven percent of our net profit to charity. In 2015, we donated over $200,000 to 20+ charities and volunteered time at local schools. We tutored, attended career day, adopted two needy families during the holiday season, and donated clothing, gifts, and other necessities. We sponsored two local schools through the DC Adopt-A-School Program, supporting a middle school trip to Ecuador; catering two teacher appreciation breakfasts; and providing much needed school supplies and uniforms. On August 13, 2016, JMA staff will participate in a school beautification day at Jefferson Middle School Academy in Southwest D.C.
In addition to the awards and certifications listed above, JMA is 8(a) Certified and a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. Due to our rapid growth and unparalleled customer service prior to 2015, we also received recognition from Inc. 500 (2011 & 2012) and Inc. 5000 (2014, 2015), US Chamber of Commerce (the 2012 Blue Ribbon), the FAA (2011) and the Air Traffic Control Association (2013).
Finally, we attribute much of our success to our highly qualified employees and our approach to project management. Roughly 90% of our managers hold Program Management Professional (PMP) certifications. For each project, we utilize a streamlined management structure and dynamic process, which allows us to proactively respond to our customers and to provide unparalleled customer service.
