Nomination Category: Individual Awards Categories
Nomination Sub Category: Woman of the Year - Technology
Nomination Title: Marlene Fox-McIntyre, Program Executive
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated woman since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Marlene Fox-McIntyre, our Program Executive and head of business operations, manages a team of approximately 20 Software and Geospatial Intelligence Engineers, Quality Specialists, and Project Management Office (PMO) support staff to develop and deliver military and commercial aviation navigation software and a combined total of over 20 GB of aviation safety-of-flight data every 28 days.
WingX Pro7 is our commercial Electronic Flight Bag ( EFB) software, and is used by thousands of general aviation pilots throughout the United States. In 2015, under Marlene’s leadership, we added Android and Kindle Fire platform support to our existing iOS product to improve software availability. We also introduced unique patented technology allowing users to draw flight routes with a finger or stylus (traca™) and to show correct location on approach charts not drawn to scale (WingX Non-Linear Warping Technology). WingX Pro7 won the Appy 2016 award for best mapping/location app of the year.
Marlene also manages the Aero App Program, a multimillion dollar government contract to develop and deliver aviation safety-of-flight software and data to U.S. military pilots, crew, and mission planners under the direction of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Aero App is also used by other U.S. Agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration and Forestry Service, NATO, and international allies to support worldwide operational missions. Aero App is designed to be an easy-to-use app that runs on all mobile operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS, and Google Android.
Her team implemented secure, scalable cloud hosting solutions to improve download times for all aeronautical data. Because of the program’s great success, scope was increased by 20% in FY2016. Even with this increase, the program met 100% of deliverables on time and within budget due to her good stewardship, ability to identify and mitigate risks, and excellent customer relationship building. New features added to the program in the past year included support for third party and user-generated maps, integration with external devices including GPS, weather and traffic data feeds, and much more.
Aero App earned an unprecedented level of customer satisfaction since its inception. Our customer won three national awards due to the outstanding success of our software and data products under Marlene’s leadership:
1. Federal 100 – awarded in April 2016 to our customer’s Program Officer for the outstanding success of Aero App.
2. Digital Government Achievement Award – awarded September 2016.
3. GCN’s Digital IT (digIT) award for Mobile Apps – awarded October 2016.
As a former military officer, Marlene focuses on flight safety and mission success. She is available seven days a week to listen, answer questions, and solve problems. She visits military installations and attends industry events to get first hand feedback from pilots. Her goal: pilots fly safe, get the job done, and come home safe.
Marlene is ultimately responsible for success of the program. She also oversees internal company operations to provide corporate stability as we continue to grow our presence in the navigation product space.
