Describe for the judges the nominated individual's activities and accomplishments that provided support and assistance to other women since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Major Jas Boothe has been at the forefront advocating for and housing homeless women veterans and her children. She has started a national conversation and sparked a movement to recognize and give women veterans the services they have earned and desperately need. But nothing she has done compares to what occurred on June 7, 2016. Major Boothe received a call that a homeless World War 2 female veteran had died and because she had no family, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would have to accept her flag. She was also told only 3 people would be in attendance, 2 were from the VA. Jas found this unacceptable for a woman who had given so much for this country and with only 3 days notice, she sparked a social media calling so strong, that over 200 people showed up to Serina's funeral.
This story was so inspiring that almost every major news outlet carried the story. The picture of Major Boothe kissing Serina's casket went viral. This selfless act of compassion for a fellow female veteran is one that will stay on the hearts of all that were touched for a lifetime. Jas is the epitome of this quote by John Bunyan “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”
