The company is owned and operated by people with a disability, and receives no government subsidies nor is it a charity. Enabled Employment began trading as a startup on 1 July 2014, with the guidance of the GRIFFIN Accelerator in Canberra, Australia and held a formal business launch on 11 September 2014. Since it began, the company has won an impressive number of awards for business, and for social responsibility. Our CEO Jessica May won the National Telstra Business Women's Award in the Startup Category in 2015, and has used the platform to to raise awareness of the issues in employment for people with a disability and returned servicemen and women wounded by their service.

The company has five full time staff, four women and one man. The management team is 75% female, and the achievement we are most proud of is our growth over the past two years, and the number of people with a disability and returned servicemen and women we have successfully placed into sustainable employment. We now have 274 employers and 4300 candidates (at the time of submitting this nomination)

Our achievements include winning various awards for innovation, not least of which is an Australian Information and Internet Association Award for innovation in the way we have built our website, which is fully automated. We have also been recognized for disrupting the disability employment industry by refusing to accept any government funding or subsidies, and operating as a private company rather than a charity. We are all people with a disability at the company. There are three co-founders, all of whom are people with a disability. We believe that our skills and qualifications make us valuable potential employees, and all that needs to happen for us to achieve our best results is 'reasonable adjustment' in the workplace, and the use of a results only work environment. We are fortunate in that our 274 employers to date are willing to take the same approach, and employ people with a disability and our wounded warriors from the Australian Defense Force. We have, to date, advertised over 600 jobs for people with a disability and veterans to apply for.

We have changed the narrative around people with a disability and employment with our marketing, and we now commonly hear our marketing themes repeated by politicians, business council leaders and journalists. This is a massive achievement for us, and we are now pressing on with ensuring these messages continue to change the way people think about employing people with a disability or a wounded veteran. CEO Jessica May is constantly in demand as a public speaker at business events, and at conferences. Media Liaison and Communications Manager Sharon Kelley also delivers keynote speeches about disability employment at Universities, and actively participates in meetings with industry leaders, ministerial round table discussions and employer groups. Our Operations Manager and Recruitment Staff are constantly in touch with employers, and our candidates, matching jobs and candidates on a daily basis. Australia has the lowest disability employment participation rates in the OECD and we intend to change that.

CEO Jessica May is the founder of Enabled Employment and a highly regarded former public servant with many awards in both her former public sector roles and as the leader of Enabled Employment. They include the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence and the National Telstra Business Woman's Award.

Media Liaison and Communications Manager Sharon Kelley is a co-founder of the business and also a former public servant with four Australia Day citations for excellence, and believe it or not, three country music awards. She is a journalist and savvy marketer.

Chief Information Officer Chris Delforce has built the Enabled Employment website, which is a unique and custom built site with incredible automation and functionality, winning an iAward in 2015 for Best Commercial Website.
