Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Since July of 2017, Dr. Robin Smith, Founder and President of The Cura Foundation, has achieved a historic success, bringing her message of hope and healing to over 3 billion people all over the world. To achieve this feat, Dr. Smith partnered with The Vatican, where, working alongside Pontifical Council for Culture and Pope Francis, she created Unite To Cure, a three-day event (April 26-28) held within the Vatican that now stands alongside Davos and SXSW as one of most high profile thought leadership events in the world. Dr. Smith recruited Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Meredith Vieira and Dr. Max Gomez to serve as moderators; she pulled in Katy Perry, Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Francis Collins, Dr George Church, Dr Peter Diamandis, Jack Nicklaus and other VIPs to share their own stories about transformative approaches to healthcare; she united over 350 thought leaders from medicine, technology, business, faith, philanthropy, nutrition and other fields in a collaborative mission; Pope Francis attended and offered a personal address; Former Vice President Joe Biden sent a private video message; and she brought real patients, who could share their stories of medical innovation and hope for the future.
Dr. Smith is a trailblazer and what she has accomplished has never been done before. She forged a novel partnership with The Vatican’s Pontifical Council For Culture, a remarkable achievement when you consider she is not catholic. But she believed The Vatican could provide an un-paralleled platform for her message, which was inclusive of all faiths, races and backgrounds. Her message is timely; she argued that faith and science should never stand in opposition, but could inform one another and catalyze the development of cures. This message resonated all over the world. In fact, working alongside her PR agency, Allison+Partners (A+P), Dr. Smith created an event that generated over 3000 separate new stories in three days, and 9,598 social media posts from 7,994 users.
For her efforts, Dr. Smith was Knighted by Pope Francis in 2016, a remarkable be achievement for anyone, especially a woman who was born Jewish in NYC.
Dr. Smith had to overcome significant obstacles to generate this historic success. Specifically, the Vatican does not allow live TV broadcasts or streaming from within the Vatican Amphitheatre, where the Unite To Cure event was held. And thus, Dr. Smith worked with her agency to develop a historic solution: The Unite To Cure Interview Room. Specifically, after VIP speakers would exit the main stage at The Vatican, where they either delivered a speech or participated in a round table, there were escorted to this special room, where Meredith Vieira (PBS) or Dr. Max Gomez (WCBS) would conduct a brief on-the-spot interview. A+P’s video and digital teams would edit these videos on the spot – over 60 of them in three days – and then would push them out on social platforms just minutes afterward, allowing Cura to tell dynamic stories while adhering to Vatican protocols.
Finally, Dr. Smith authored a breakthrough book in October 2017,Cells Are The New Cure, which features a Forward by Sanjay Gupta and articulates her vision for a cellularand geneticfuture.

Dr. Robin L. Smithis a global thought leader in regenerative medicine. She received her M.D. from the Yale School of Medicine and MBA from the Wharton School of Business. During her tenure as CEO of the NeoStem family of companies (NASDAQ: NBS now CLBS) from 2006 to 2015, she pioneered the company’s innovative business model, combining proprietary cell therapy development with a successful contract development and manufacturing organization. Dr. Smith raised over $240 million, completing six acquisitions and one divestiture while the company won an array of industry awards including a first-place ranking in the tri-state area (two years in a row), and eleventh place nationally, on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 and Frost & Sullivan’s North American Cell Therapeutics Technology Innovation Leadership Award.
