Nomination Title: Amanda Shuchat, Managing Director
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Since The Colony Project opened its doors in early 2016, Managing Director Amanda Shuchat has been revolutionizing the industry through her integrated approach to earned media. A born leader with exceptional foresight and a knack for creativity, Amanda was hand-selected to start and lead the full-service PR agency, owned by Vision7, a Canadian media company that counts renowned sister-agencies Cossette and Citizen Relations on its roster. Since July 2016, under Amanda’s leadership, The Colony project has more than doubled its revenue and tripled its workforce.
With her relentless drive to uncover deep insights and deliver meaningful results, Colony’s client roster has only grown. Over the past year, Amanda has captured the attention of global brands like La Roche-Posay and Nando’s, but also managed to win over start-up companies like SoCIAL LITE Vodka and Honey Water taking Colony’s client list from three to 15.
Attracting the best talent from Canada’s top agencies, she has tripled Colony’s workforce bringing in expertise in strategy, client services media relations, social media and content development. Striking a fine balance between commander and companion, Amanda has nurtured individuals to realize their strengths and become leaders.
Amanda believes in giving back.
As a start-up, Amanda credits sister-agencies and relationships with support that helped get Colony off the ground. And it got her thinking: There are so many talented entrepreneurs, but many don’t have the same support system we benefit from. In fact, with nearly 15 per cent of new businesses not making it through their first year and little more than half surviving five, Amanda wanted to give back by sharing knowledge and resources with like-minded entrepreneurs who believe in the power of innovation and public relations. With that in mind, she created The Common Good Project to help start-up companies in their pursuit of brand awareness.
She is at the centre of industry leadership sharing insights through speaking engagements and cleaning up with awards.
Dedicated to helping others succeed outside the organization and she spoke at Filling the Gap’s inaugural event in January 2017.
She spoke about “The New PR” at the Playback Marketing Summit this past November in Toronto, educating 300+ attendees and providing thought leadership on the future direction of PR.
