Nomination Title: Natalie Myshkina, First Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):
Natalie Myshkina is an ideal candidate for Female Executive of the Year because of her business acumen, leadership within Leumi and passionate commitment to meaningful causes. Arriving in America in the late 1990s with limited English skills, a small suitcase and few funds, Myshkina has built an impressive career through education, hard work and the support of her community, serving as an inspiration for all businesswomen.
As First Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy for Bank Leumi USA, Myshkina has been instrumental in driving the Bank’s latest transformation program and growth. She strategically supported a $40 million IT overhaul by mapping the Bank’s operating model and platform for future growth. She strategized and developed a go-to-market plan for how the Bank could secure its position in the high-net-worth private banking industry while developing a new incentive compensation plan for the bankers. The Bank’s transformation has resulted in almost 300% ROE growth since 2014.
Most significantly, Myshkina has led Leumi’s newest commercial banking industry division from conceptual development through implementation. Launched in March 2017, Bank Leumi USA’s Water Group provides banking services to water-focused companies looking to expand domestically or internationally. Tasked with identifying industries in which the Bank could build niche expertise, Myshkina researched and pinpointed water as a prime growth area, highlighting that $4.8 trillion would be required over the next two decades to shore up critical infrastructure, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. Water is an exponentially growing market in the U.S. that is quickly becoming a hot area of technological innovation. When faced with initial skepticism, Myshkina advocated for the strategy and convinced senior stakeholders of the plan’s value. Furthermore, in the past year, she has singlehandedly spearheaded the initiative towards launch by defining a market-entry strategy, creating a comprehensive marketing plan, building industry connections, and educating best-fit bankers to fill client-facing positions.
As a result of Myshkina’s efforts, the Water Group has thrived since inception and has generated significant business. The Bank forecasts that over $120 million in deals will close within the next year, and there is an extensive pipeline for new clients. The initiative has spurred interest among other business lines, with private banking clients inquiring about investment opportunities in water-focused companies. There has been international interest as well, leading to referrals to Leumi’s bankers in Israel and Europe.
Myshkina has also made it her priority to mentor Leumi’s female employees, serving as an Executive Sponsor of the Bank’s Women Leadership Initiative. Recognizing the crucial impact of mentorship on her own success, Myshkina takes an active role in the professional development of not only her formal mentees but her entire staff.
Outside the office, Myshkina pursues a number of community service projects to further her professional and personal interests. This includes serving on the Advisory Board of Reach the World, a nonprofit that broadens children’s horizons by digitally connecting classrooms to travelers across the globe. She also is a member of the Water Environment Federation and the American Water Works Association – not only because of Leumi’s business in the sector, but also because she is truly passionate about finding strategies to address impending
