Nomination Title: Amslee Institute - Training Nannies and Sitters, Trusted by Families

Describe for the judges the nominated product or service, including its features, functions, benefits, and performance to date (up to 525 words). Include in this section the date since the beginning of July last year on which the product or service was introduced to the marketplace:

Teachers and daycare workers have legally mandated and regulated training requirements prior to taking care of children. Sitters and Nannies, however, are not regulated or licensed, leaving those who hire them to take a leap of faith with respect to their skills. Parents and families are responsible for finding, interviewing, conducting background screening, hiring, and training Nannies and Sitters, a process that creates stress and anxiety for most families. Thus, 55% of parents decided to stay home because they couldn’t find a trusted Sitter or Nanny. More importantly, many working families admit they have had to miss work due an issue with their childcare provider.

The Nanny and Sitter industry lacked a college level training and certification program, but now, Amslee Institute provides clarity and industry standard qualifications with 5 levels of in-home childcare and job responsibilities. The 5 levels include Sitters (Basic), Part-Time Nannies (Intermediate), Full-Time Nannies (Advanced), Family Assistants (Specialist), and Professional Nannies (Professional). With these new programs created and taught by college faculty at a licensed technical school, Sitters and Nannies can invest in formal career training. An Amslee childcare diploma and certification allows students to learn practical skills and demonstrate their commitment to providing quality childcare.

From July through December 2017, Amslee’s curriculum and courses were developed by over 30 contracted college faculty including child psychologists, physician assistants, nutritionists, teachers, lawyers, and athletic coaches. Over 50 hours of online courses with quizzes, study guides, and proficiency exams were developed and recorded. In addition to the online coursework, program requirements were defined. Amslee Institute requires students to be at least 16 years old and enrolled or have graduated from high school. Students must also compete CPR and First Aid training, provide 1 to 5 professional references, and have documented paid childcare work experience (100 - 4000 hours depending on the selected program) to graduate with a childcare diploma and certification.

In November 2017, the online learning management system was selected and configured. The programs are available nationwide and 24/7 and fully online from enrollment through completion. Students have the flexibility to take the courses on their schedule and in their homes.

In January 2018, Amslee Institute programs earned license approval by the Florida Commission for Independent Education. Immediately, Amslee launched the website and started building a community of students. Amslee has also created a social media presence sharing weekly childcare articles and tips authored by the college faculty as well as hosting Facebook live sessions with faculty and industry leaders. By June 2018, Amslee Institute had strategic partnerships with leading nanny agencies across the US to provide graduates with additional job support and career mobility.

Amslee Institute is committed to Nannies, Sitters, and Families. The primary goal is to elevate Sitters and Nannies to better care for children through expert and affordable training. The secondary goal is to ease the hiring process for families and agencies. An Amslee Diploma makes the interview process simpler since the potential employer knows the graduate has specific training, references, and documented experience. Amslee Institute also helps families understand salary expectations for the different levels of childcare by defining the career path with increasing levels of responsibility.
