Nomination Title: Julianna Yau, Founder & Director

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated entrepreneur since the beginning of July last year (up to 525 words):

As a dedicated entrepreneur and educator, I started a fast-growing education business in Hong Kong to help students achieve rapid academic success.Through employing, instructing and supervising a team of experienced tutors with strong and diverse backgrounds, we have successfully helped many students in gaining admissions into top schools and universities in Hong Kong, the US, the UK and Canada with over 90% of our clients receiving offers from their first choice.

The education side of my role as Director includes leading Ampla’s team to provide customised mentorship services for our clients, eg matching students with alumni of their dream school from our global network of mentors; working on school and university admissions strategies with clients; and developing programmes in intellectual enrichment and exam preparation so that our students can gain a more well-rounded education.

The Digital Age has seen rapid changes in technology and I have demonstrated leadership by modernising Ampla in the following ways:

Firstly, by leading my team to presenteducational ideas in a way the younger generation can relate to andlearn more efficiently. Through the inclusion of virtual reality tools in our lessons andcreating our own series of educational videos, we modernise teaching methods by designing innovative and interactive curriculum combining technology and learning. Additionally, we regularly post funeducational facts on our social media platforms to engage with students.

Secondly, I established our online presence by being the editor of Ampla’s blog, which gives insights into the education industry in order to keep our current and potential clients informed.

My other key role is to implement corporate social responsibility initiatives with various charities.

Being a firm believer that knowledge is power and education is one of the most effective ways to solve the root causes of poverty, I led Ampla to support the dire needs of underprivileged childrenfrom around the world. Wepartake in children sponsorship programmes with Po Leung Kuk andPlan International, to provide children withimproved learning opportunities.

Having studied at all-girls schools for 13 years, I see the impact of quality education on the empowerment of women, especially in traditionally male-dominated subjects, such as maths & sciences. Hence, we fund World Vision’s girls literacy classes to empower girls with knowledge and equip them for future opportunities, so that they will have the chance to transform their lives.

Earlier this year, we partnered with YMCA Boundless to help under-resourced students accomplish their goals by providing personal statement and interview skills workshops, and university application guidance. Equipped with the skills needed to make a competitive application, we ensure that under-resourced students will be on an equal footing with more financially capable students when it comes to university applications.

Recently, we are honoured to receive Social Enterprise Research Academy’s Social Caring Award for our contribution to the community. We are also grateful to be given the Most Outstanding Education Centre Award, Most Valuable Services in Hong Kong Award, and Asia Business Achiever Award.

At Ampla, every student is given the opportunity to flourish and unleash their potential. We hope to create a harmonious society in which disadvantaged children will be able to do the same.
