Ryan is always looking for a new way to prospect, and he decided why not try some Friday night television! He turned on ABC one evening and saw customers pitching their businesses to could be investors. Most of the companies were talking about looking to manufacture or produce their product off-shore. Ryan knew eventually some Boston companies would come on the show, and be doing the same. Sure enough, they did and the rest is history!
Ryan started 2016 with onboarding a new company in the Boston market. They aired on Shark Tank in December 2015. Upon watching their pitch on Shark Tank, the founders said they were headquartered in Boston, MA, and were producing all of their cards in Vietnam. Ryan had been doing some light work with them exporting, but when uncovering this information he was able to explain to them the competitive market advantages of DHL in Vietnam. Ryan has taken this customer from $0 revenue to $282,000 year to date through September 30, 2016.
This experience allowed him to understand the international boom and interest that comes from an investment on this show. With that, came a second opportunity in the Boston market, unveiled in May 2016. Ryan met with the customer, and shared his experiences with them on the amount of international interest that comes from airing on a show like Shark Tank. The customer stated that they were shipping internationally daily and thought that their international volumes would go from 3-4 shipments a day to a possible 6-7.
The customer aired on Shark Tank on May 20th, and in the first few weeks after the show they were bombarded with orders to locations they had never shipped to before. At that time, feeling overwhelmed, their current provider wasn’t able to deliver timely to many of their international customer’s locations. At that point, the customer called Ryan, and said exactly what he said would happen did, and they need DHL immediately. Ryan signed the customer up that day, and by the second week of June had on boarded the new business. In their first four months with DHL, they have averaged 15 shipments per day for a total of 1,254 export shipments.
