Established in 2006 by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) is aligned to the emirate’s leadership vision to develop sport and youth activities. ADSC is responsible for the management and support, scheduling, and tracking of all sports related events and entities in Abu Dhabi.
ADSC contributes towards promoting the importance of engaging in sports, and the development and improvement of sports programs, for all segments of the community. Furthermore, ADSC implements the best and latest international systems that promote competition at local, regional, and international levels.
Ultimately, ADSC’s mission is to establish an environment that contributes towards promoting the importance of sport practicing and sport programs for all segments of the community.
We at ADSC have 52 sporting entities under our umbrella. We receive reports from each entity on a regular basis, which are then used to make decisions that impact the clubs, and the Abu Dhabi sports sector as a whole. These reports are crucial; they provide critical insights into the sports sector on the challenges that the entities face, and the progress of our initiatives and programmes in addressing them.
The task of managing a complex and decentralized reporting structure of 52 entities posed major hurdles towards effective management of club operations, and hampered the management’s ability to take real-time decisions. Consolidation and simplification of each entities’ reports, resulted in a significant loss of time and resources, and impeded the efficiency of the reporting process. In addition to loss of time and effort, attributed to report consolidation and simplification, we received reports on an irregular schedule, as each entity had their own report creation process.
In order to consolidate and simplify the reporting mechanism of the entities, we developed an easy-to-use platform to be used across all the entities. The platform had three layers:
1.a centralized data centre for data ingestion, which connected with a variety of internal and external sources for data acquisition; including data harvesting and ingestion – and leveraged a variety of rules to automate the same,
2.a data processing, transformation and computation engine that leveraged a variety of tools for data preparation and modelling – including statistical modelling for predictive analytics,
3.and a reporting engine which leveraged the entire portfolio of SAS to provide our management with real-time data and analytics for decision making on-the-fly.
The platform focused on simplicity and intuitive design, to ensure that users across the entities can easily navigate and interact with the platform; minimizing the need for extensive training. Both end users and senior management (within the entities and ADSC), were able to quickly acclimate to the platform and begin interpreting their data for informed decision-making. Our end users were able to view reports on the platform’s visual layer at any-time and from anywhere since the platform was deployed on cloud with state-of-the-art security systems and protocols.
Post implementation of the platform, transparency between the 52 entities and ADSC has significantly increased as we are now able to view 50+ critical KPI’s of each entity. Additionally, we have been able to further align our entities with our processes of HR, and Finance and Procurement functions due to the increased visibility of operations. More than 30 dashboards with multiple views have been prepared in 2023 alone, and over 34 Million AED in savings have been realized till date.
The Abu Dhabi sports sector’s reporting structure underwent a metamorphosis from a complex decentralized system with inefficiencies, to a simplified centralized system with real-time insight generation, augmented with predictive analytics. Both us and the 52 entities have benefitted from the platform; we are now able to view reports at any moment in time, and are assured of the reports’ data cleanliness, accuracy, and standardization.
