Westminster Abbey has had a website since 1997. The current website launched on 21st May 2018.

Briefly describe this entry’s communications objectives and how it met those objectives (up to 200 words):

Westminster Abbey's brief was that this website should be as beautiful and special as the Abbey itself with the user experience to reflect the friendly welcome given by the Abbey to its visitors and worshippers.

It has been designed to encourage more visitors to book tickets online with the visitor pages revised to make it easier to plan a trip. A special module has been created to tell users about opening times and music sung at religious service.

The site also aims to attract more British visitors whether to worship, visit or attend an event.

As a working church, special attention was given to the site’s worship pages to encourage more people to attend one of the Abbey’s services. This followed research showing that many people didn’t know they could attend the Abbey’s regular services, or that they were free.

Since launch, the site's Bounce Rate has been reduced by 45% and the Exit Rate by 10%.

Online ticket sales have increased by 60%, with ticket sales to those in the UK increasing by 11%.

Visits to the site from people in the UK has increased by 13%, and views of our page listing services times have increased by 59%.
