Nomination Title: vArmour DSS Deception

Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 650 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date.

Based in Mountain View, CA, vArmour was founded in 2011 and is backed by top investors including Highland Capital Partners, Menlo Ventures, and Redline Capital, among others.

vArmour DSS Deception is the industry’s first simple, scalable and secure cyber deception solution for organizations seeking a more proactive and robust cybersecurity posture.

Built on vArmour’s patented distributed security architecture, DSS Deception is easily downloaded and deployed in as few as 15 minutes, enabling security teams to lure attackers away from critical assets and proactively identify suspicious and malicious activities. The platform helps some of the world’s largest banks, telecom service providers, government agencies, healthcare providers and retailers to protect business-critical information wherever it may reside.

With deception-based security technologies becoming increasingly necessary for businesses to have a comprehensive defense-in-depth program, few issues continue to pose as challenges towards organizational adoption, including cost, complexity, and potential for increased risk. vArmour’s DSS Deception removes these roadblocks by delivering an efficient and secure cyber deception solution to aid businesses with a more proactive cloud security approach.

vArmour DSS Deception is the industry’s first simple, scalable, and secure cyber deception solution for organizations seeking a more proactive and robust cybersecurity posture. Built on vArmour’s patented distributed security architecture, DSS Deception is easily downloaded and deployed in as few as 15 minutes, enabling security teams to lure attackers away from critical assets and proactively identify suspicious and malicious activities.

DSS Deception was purpose-built for organizations migrating to the cloud, allowing security teams to further prevent attacks by leveraging the unused address ranges in virtual and cloud data centers to create the appearance of thousands or even millions of vulnerable workloads - all from a single deception point. This single-instance deployment model dramatically reduces management and monitoring efforts and allows security teams to incorporate deception approaches with minimal overhead costs.

When combined with vArmour’s flagship product, vArmour DSS Segmentation, even greater capabilities are enabled for security teams. Using vArmour DSS Segmentation, organizations are able to tighten application-layer security policies around each workload in the data center, dramatically reducing exposed attack surfaces. Then, using vArmour DSS Deception, the apparent attack surfaces shown to adversaries is expanded across the unused address ranges in the data center. Once an attacker is identified through interaction with vArmour DSS Deception, from the analytics provided as part of the vArmour Distributed Security System, or even from a separate security product, security teams can then quickly identify the scope of the attack and rapidly quarantine affected workloads to fully remediate the compromise. Through these capabilities enabled by vArmour’s patented technologies, network defenders are able to gain full control over what attackers see and what they can do - finally achieving the home field advantage that has proved so difficult to achieve for decades.

In bullet-list form, briefly summarize up to ten (10) of the chief features and benefits of the nominated product or service.

In today’s enterprise landscape, the biggest challenge for deception solutions to date is that they can often increase overall risk. This is due to the nature of deception technologies where the intent is to try and get adversaries to attack the deception solution directly so they can be identified. The risk is that the attacker may be successful and then have access to other systems on the security network. vArmour DSS Deception addresses this with the company’s patented micro-segmentation technology which tightly controls all communications in and out of the deception point, reducing any exposed attack surfaces to prevent exploitation and preventing any further lateral spread. Additionally, the vArmour Distributed Security System provides full independent auditability for all communications in and out of the deception point, as well as every other workload in the data center, so security teams always have a complete view of what is going on.
