Stockdale & Leggo is one of Australia’s leading real estate franchises. With a proud history spanning more than 80 years, we have successfully built our business into a 65-office strong network covering Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and New South Wales.
Our primary service is selling and renting real estate, however we also focus on continually evolving to better meet the ongoing needs of our clients, teams and franchisees. Over the past 12 months, we have launched a number of initiatives to help our business leaders strengthen their position in what is becoming an increasingly competitive market.
One of the most important achievements in the last year was the internal culture shift of our organisation which saw us move towards greater gender equality in what is traditionally a highly male-dominated industry. In order to achieve this change in culture, we set a long-term goal of reaching a 50/50 gender ratio split in our franchises by the year 2025 and adopted a zero-tolerance policy on any acts of sexism or discrimination.
The change was spearheaded by Chief Operating Officer Anna Thomas who is also the Founder and Brand Ambassador of the ‘Empowered Women in Real Estate’ initiative, a community empowering women to believe in themselves and step forward into leadership roles. Under Anna’s leadership, we have radically transformed our internal culture and are proud to promote equality throughout our organisation with 17 of our 65 offices now being led by female franchisees.
We have also initiated a new partnership with Australia’s fastest growing financial aggregator, Finsure, the purpose of which is to connect our offices with local Finsure brokers who provide agents, principals and clients with expert financial advice and solutions which is a step towards our goal of being a ‘one stop shop’ for vendors, buyers, landlords and tenants.
Acting as an extension of the team, brokers spend face-to-face time in the office, attend open house inspections and accept enquiries from customers looking to purchase through the Stockdale & Leggo network. The partnership has already resulted in an improved sales experience with many clients benefitting from having a financial expert on hand to assist them with their finances during the buying and/or selling process.
Further to this, we have also joined forces with Deloitte Private to deliver an industry first training and development program designed to expose franchisees to best practice business thinking to help them grow their own businesses and the careers of the people they employ. Titled the Ignite Program, the curriculum was designed to challenge franchisees to take the next step in their businesses, develop their leadership skills and to raise the bar in how franchisors can service their franchisee group.
We identified that by focusing on four key areas (leadership, people and culture, operations and finance), the Ignite Program will overcome the gap in leadership and business skills within the group while concurrently improving the profitability and performance of our franchisees.
Another way in which we are supporting our franchisees to remain at the forefront of the real estate industry is by hosting regular events in which they can liaise with other business leaders. We host an annual Leadership Retreat for our Principals to learn from some of the brightest business minds in Australia in a supportive environment away from their offices so they can focus and apply the theory directly to their businesses in a workshop scenario.
We are one of the most culturally diverse and inclusive real estate companies within the industry. Our employees originate from Italian, Greek, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and Lebanese heritages, as we believe in hiring for attitude and cultural fit. A person’s background, age, gender, sexual preference and religion are irrelevant. Some of our top salespeople are in their 50’s. Our eldest member of the group is a 70 year old franchisee and our youngest member is a year ten work experience student.
