Seocho-gu has created a specialized maternal and child health center for pregnant women & infants and toddlers, which provide the whole process from pregnancy preparation to childbirth and childcare as a one-stop service for the first time in the nation to make ‘a good city to raise children’. 2018. 1. 22. The Seocho-gu Maternal and Child Health Center, which is open to public, consists of specialists such as doctors and nurses, exercise therapist, nutritionist, and play instructors who provide maternal and infant and toddlers health care programs, maternal mental health improvement program for postnatal depression and stressful pregnant women, as well as operating information community.
Seocho Maternal and Child Health Center consists of 7 theme spaces. Starting from the 'Health Clinic', which specializes in basic roles of public health centers such as prenatal and postnatal care for pregnant women, congenital anomaly test and sonogram, the 'Learning Place', which is a step-by-step intensive course that raises the role of parent, to the ‘Nutrient Raising Room’, which is breast-feeding clinic, a consultation service for infants and toddlers, and a postpartum weight control program is operated. In addition, ‘Raising Health Room’ provides customized exercise prescriptions such as postpartum correction using yoga, Pilates apparatus, pelvic exercise to help postpartum recovery, and the ‘Five Sensory Play Room’ consists of music, art, book play, tactile play, and physical development, all customized for each level characteristics.
Also, the ‘Hangout Room’ provides a community space for pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, supporting parents’ clubs and activities, and the ‘Room for Me’ helps to relieve postpartum depression and single parenting stress through a one-on-one professional psychological counseling program such as aromatherapy, massage, and meditation.
The creation of Seocho Maternal and Child Health Center for regnant women and infants and toddlers was the need of practical solution for the recent declining fertility rate and an increase in the proportion of older pregnant women. In order to establish a foothold for lifelong health for the infant, the existing health center has a limitation. The existing public health centers provide health care services for the public from the elderly to the children, and they have stayed in simple health support services such as basic medical consultation and immunization for pregnant women, infants and toddlers, and yoga for pregnant women.
As a result, Seocho Maternal and Child Health Center plays a role as a control tower that supervises child care related services for novice parents, especially those who have more difficulties in raising children than the previous generation, promoting the establishment of the policy of concrete and practical lifestyle in the region.
